I have always been intrigued by how strong the influence of our surroundings is on our moods and emotions. We interact with the spaces and objects around us, constantly creating new interpretations of our reality and how we see the world. Says Carol Loeb, of the initial idea behind her solo show, debuting at Galerie 203 tomorrow, ‘Places and Spaces. She goes on to explain how we have all been affected by COVID-19 lately, (struggling) to maintain some sort of normal life a...s we stay mostly at home if we can. She explains how the shift inspired her to return to her old photography and revisit places which had inspired her at the time. And while her main focus remains the landscape, more urban scenes seem to attract her now, especially those that should be bustling but now are quiet . The places are familiar, the spaces are the same, but we are now different. There is still beauty around us if we care to open our eyes to see it. We can transport ourselves mentally, if not physically, to those spots that gave us great joy and peace. Some memories become starting points for mental exploration and experimentation.
