ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Jennifer Hornyak "Red Striped Quilt with Flowers " 16" X 12" , oil on paper on panel, 2019... "This painting was inspired by a pot of flowers which I had in my studio. It is my own interpretation, fired by my love of pots and flowers.... and by, of course, blackbirds! I introduced the quilt, plus a small corner of collage, to enhance the main characters In the painting." - Jennifer Hornyak Visit: http://galeriestlaurentplushill.com/album/hornyak-jennifer to see more work by Jennifer Hornyak, or contact us for more information at [email protected].

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: John Barkley "Tapas #7" 16" x 20", oil on canvas, 2020 ... "Tapas #7 like many of my pieces came out of a dialogue with the material of paint. Yet, I see the influence of my graduate work. Tapis is a concept from the Hindu Vedas meaning heat, or the energy of desire to create from the original void. To go forward and manifest creation. From the darkness colour emerges.." - John Barkley Visit: http://galeriestlaurentplushill.com/album/barkley-john to see more work by John Barkley, or contact us for more information at [email protected].

Chromogenic Curmudgeons -The Potato Eaters, 74" x 43", Photography, 2015

Galerie St-Laurent + Hill 07.10.2020

The Chromogenic Curmudgeons are an artistic collaboration between photographers Evergon and Jean-Jacques Ringuette. (français suivra) Beyond its historical connotations, the expression used here as a title does not refer so much to a sexual relationship as it defines the complicit relationship that we have maintained for more than thirty-five years. Metaphorically, this duality also gives permission to the invention of new hybrids....Continue reading

October 8 - 20, 2020 Inside and Out On March 13th, our world changed : lockdown. Even though we were house-bound, it took me 2 months to even pick up a paintbrush. I figured I would start tentatively and work my way back into the studio. But the opposite happened ; I could not stop. ... I have been living in the Laurentian countryside since March and my life has both grown both smaller and bigger at the same time. The forest, the trees and the pond are mine everyday - what I wake up and go to sleep to. My grown family is also here and we have had the opportunity to bubble together and eat and play in a way that would never have happened before. And so I am painting my story, both of the inside and outside. And to tell my story, my voice - or more specifically my hands and the marks they make - must come through. And it is a story that continues. The paintings hopefully convey that: my presence, the unfinished quality of the work which allows for movement, change, possibilities. So I am happy to present a group of paintings that are both landscapes and still-lives but which all come from the same place and tell a story of hopefulness in these dark times.
