At Gallery 421, we are very excited about the collection from guest artist, C.J. Campbell. This series of paintings features the joy of spring, with the return of our feathered friends. Each piece is brimming with the happiness of a bird’s nest, cradling pretty eggs. Our feature painting, On the Terrace charms us with the evidence of little birds, smart enough to build their home in a sunny corner. This entire collection speaks to us of joy, determination, and sheer optimism! Type title in search box for all details www.gallery421.ca

Featured Artist: Debra Martin Floral paintings that exude atmosphere and energy...bold, bright, works of art that have a 3-dimensional quality achieved by sculpting a paint-medium directly onto the canvas surface. These unique paintings, with multiple layers of transparent glazes and dry-brushed opaque strokes, are the work of Canadian artist, Deb Martin. With a master’s degree in psychology, Debra left the field of health care a number of years ago to become a professional ...artist. She grew up watching her mother sketch and paint, enjoying a childhood surrounded by all things artistic. Largely self-taught, Deb has completed courses in Fine Art at Okanagan College, and has attended workshops and classes to continue to hone her talents. Which one is your favourite? #floralart #localartists #okanagan

Our favorite painting this week, Lovingly Lingering is by Saskatchewan artist, Jacqueline Faye Miller. We love the luscious colours of apricot and tangerine, the fluid lines, and the expert use of negative white space. So fresh! So Miller!! Type title in search box for all details www.gallery421.ca

The art that has stolen our hearts this week, is the magnificent bronze raven called Stolen Time by sculptor Reg Parsons. You can count every feather, feel the poised tension, and sense the thrill of success in this beautiful bird as he dangles from his beak, his latest prize......a stolen pocket-watch. This large bronze sculpture reminds us of how extremely clever these birds are. Definitely a "heart-stealer!" Type title in search box for all details www.gallery421.ca

Our favorite painting this week is "Just Driving By" from the talented David Langevin. The bold lines and vivid colours depict a heritage home, reminding us of visiting, and family gatherings at a time when streets, house, and indeed everyday life, held the promise of warmth, friendship, and comfort. It's a bit like admiring Kelowna's heritage homes on streets like Pandosy, and Walnut. When you look at this painting, your eyes deliver a light touch to the heart! Featured artist of the week: Jamie McCallum Jamie McCallum grew up on a cattle ranch just south of Brandon, Manitoba. Her early years on the farm have always been a source of inspiration and her love of animals and the vast prairie landscape are often reflected in the subject matter of her work. Jamie was formally trained in North Dakota where she received a degree in graphic design. After graduating, she ventured to Minnesota where she continued to build on her knowledge and... love of art throughout her career. Painting and creating are true passions for Jamie, and after returning to Canada in 2013 she has been afforded the opportunity to finally follow this dream. Her work is contemporary, gestural, and celebrates a broad subject range full of whimsy and humanity. Jamie pushes proportions to evoke mood and curiosity and utilizes the power of color and texture to further extend these boundaries. #supportlocal #innerspirit #kelownartgallery

Curator’s Comments: The star painting this week is by Okanagan artist, Sandra Chapman. Receding Tide stirs the heart, and the memory, as it takes us to the ocean. We love this reminder of the beauty of our stunning British Columbia coastline. Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast, the tang of the sea air. Irresistible! Curator's Comments: Our painting of the week is a little gem titled Fiddlin’ by British Columbia artist, Rick McDiarmid. We are invited into this scene of everyone’s favorite pub, to be tapping our toes to the lively fiddle music! Is that a pint of Guinness I can smell in the atmosphere?? Curator's Comments: The choice painting this week, is Beauty of Nature by the much-honoured Canadian artist, Tinyan Chan. Splashes of colourful leaves, and piles of bright, white snow along the shores of a blue-black, frigid stream, provide vivid contrast to remind us of the beauty of a Canadian winter. There’ll be no dipping of toes into this icy stream! Type title in search box at www.gallery421.ca for all the details.

Curator's Comments: The feature artist this week is Canadian sculptor/artist, Michael Hermesh, and in the starring role is the wonderful bronze sculpture titled, Breadcrumb Man. Standing a full 20 tall, this is obviously a man of great importance, wearing a full-length coat in a detailed herringbone weave. And he tells a story.. Every line is exquisite! Curator's Comments: In the starring role this week is the piece the scent of midnight roses by internationally recognized artist, Angela Morgan. The words fun, fabulous and fashionable could be used to describe these ladies in the painting as well as the talented Angela Morgan herself! And who doesn’t love a girl’s night out??
