Well today is Em’s 4th Diaversary! He has officially been a T1D warrior for half of of his young life! He is happy, healthy and full of spunk and he won’t let ...Diabetes slow him down.(thank goodness he’s got enough energy for us all) Each year, we are that much closer to a cure but until then, he keeps smiling. My heart hurts when people post all lives matter when they truly don’t understand the true meaning of what they post. When we say all lives matter. Be honest. Say MY LIFE MATTERS and apply that to everyone else’s LIFE. Only than can we expect change.
I have worked in the tourism industry for over 30 years. I have arranged hotel stays, resort vacations, flights, car rentals and cruises. The industry has neve...r been through anything like this. Not SARS, 911, nor hurricanes, natural disasters nor the economic financial debacles over the years have crippled so much, so many, so quickly. The entire industry has been hit hard by COVID. Broadway is closed until 2021. Cirque du Soleil has filed for bankruptcy, and cut 3500+ jobs. Airlines are grounded or have cut the majority of their routes and have laid off the majority of their workforce Cruise ship entertainers are out of work along with the rest of the crews, officers and workers. hotels are at the lowest occupancy and most of the sales teams and employees have been furloughed Theme parks & productions have no idea when they will be recalled. There are no concerts or touring productions. Performing arts organizations of all kinds- choirs, theaters, orchestras, dance companies- are all trying to figure out on a daily basis how to keep going and employ anyone they can in the field. The list goes on and on and on... In every region of the country, tourism has created jobs and opportunities, for Canadians. Now many are being laid off and losing their careers over this. Tourism is our largest service export and represents more than 2 per cent of our GDP. One in 11 Canadian jobsmore than 1.7 milliondepends on the tourist economy. Tourism is our number one employer of youth, and is an important provider of employment for new Canadians. In 2016, international visitors accounted for $20 billion in tourism revenues. Domestic tourism raised just under $72 billion. So when you see your tourism, hospitality and entertainment friends begging you to wear masks and stay home, understand that we are helplessly watching our industry, businesses and livelihoods crumble before our eyes. This *IS* personal for us. PLEASE wear your mask (over your mouth AND your nose). And wash your hands....
