Anyone else enjoy Battle of the Blades? Durham Region is proud to have 2 former NHL hockey stars in The Battle of the Blades. Bryan Bickel, native of Orono, is skating for The Bryan Bickell Foundation in support of the MS Society of Canada. Kris Versteeg, currently from Brooklin, skating for Opokaa’s Early Intervention Society.... We here at Gallery on the Farm wish both men all the best in this competition. We won’t be choosing sides!!

Kids learned how to make puffball soup with Nana the other day. They learned about how to identify poisonous mushrooms as well. Aiden and Emma are showing their skills today and making puffball soup for dinner tonight! Aiden wears googles to cut the onions to keep his eyes from watering - I have never tried that that but may use his technique in the future!
Friday’s homeschooling lesson with Nana, Poppa and dad involved a tour at Almet Farms’s new chicken barn. Huge thank-you to the Metcalf family for having everyone. It is a beautiful facility!

We just love our baby barn swallows
Our boys and a few ladies (steers and heifers) switched fields yesterday! They are always excited to explore their new territory. Had some fun playing with IMovie. Music credit - Feel It Still by Portugal the Man.
While working in the willows, Jenny and the kids found this little guy! Any guesses to what species he is? Update: It is a Cecropia moth caterpillar. Thank you Allison for the information.
Last night we all enjoyed some delicious smoked braising ribs cooked by chef Aaron! They were very tasty and done with apple wood chips!
The gang love their mobile scratcher! We move it field to field with them!
As the song goes rain makes corn, corn makes whiskey lol! We are thrilled we got some more rain tonight - double what we got Friday!
We are all now sitting on the porch enjoying the rain! The Bowman’s are a happy bunch!
Why oh why does the rain keep dancing around the farm?!? Our crops are dry, the cows are warm and our grass is brown! The photo is of our poor lawn - the dandelions seem to keep growing though!
Poppa had help making repairs in the field!
Happy Canada Day from the Bowman Clan!
Celebrated Canada Day with some backyard fireworks! Hopefully the cows appreciated them as much as we did and stayed where they are supposed to be! We will find out in the morning!
We decided to call these mini meat tarts (mini tart pan is serving another purpose). Here is our recipe: 11/2 pounds Gallery on the Farm ground beef 1 cup (250 ml) Rice Krispies or bread crumbs... 1 1/2 tsp (7.5 ml) salt 1/4 tsp (1ml) pepper 1 clove garlic crushed 1 egg Combine and put in ungreased mini tart pans. Bake 350 for 25 min. Can be used with spaghetti, noodles and mushroom sauce, alone with BBQ sauce as a dip. Anyway you like it!! They freeze well so make a double batch. Double batch makes 30 mini tarts. Enjoy!!!
Keeping with the Bowman black and white cow tradition, however, instead of Holsteins they are Black Angus and Belted Galloways!
A day of fencing - followed by some ramp picking! Aiden picked just enough for a nice batch of potato, ramp and bacon soup! Delicious...
