Opening May 8 Timber, Lumber, Wood, Home, featuring photography from the local Interfor sawmill by Kelowna artist Fern Helfand in the Reid Gallery, and Second Nature: Resilience, a stop motion animation by Dawson City artist Veronica Verkley.

Over the past few months, Gallery 2 has been focusing on delivering safe, engaging, facilitated exhibition programs for our local tours. Despite the pandemic, eight classes visited our winter exhibitions.

Rainy Day - a good book and some nice music... Check out the new CD from Blue Pearl at the Gallery 2 Gift shop. Production of this CD was helped through a 2019 Civic Art Grants. There is still a couple of weeks left to participate in this months art prompt. For this art prompt, we want you to create a piece of art that acknowledges your use of this land, which is on the traditional and unceded territory of the Sylix and Sinixt people. This month’s art prompt is the land I live on, inspired by the exhibition Grand Theft Terra Firma by David Campion and Sandra Shields. Grand Theft Terra Firma turns the foundational myth of Canada on its head framin...g the theft of S’ólh Téméxw (BC’s Fraser Valley) as an imaginary video game in which the settlement was premeditated grand theft, stoked by racism and fueled by greed. This piece is one of the gameplay screenshots from the exhibition called Moving Mary Jane. This image is based on the story told by Leq’á:mél elder Susan Lewis about her pregnant grandmother who was forced to leave her farm at Tlat-whaas (Norrish Creek) in the 1870s at the behest of settlers who wanted prime land for themselves.
