Happy Mardi Gras! We are open today until 4 (or until further notice), but we hope you're all cozy and safe indoors! Here's a pop of colour for you on this snowy day: we have some colourful Mardi Gras beads at the bottom of our staircase, and the painting behind is Still Life with Patterns, a 42 x 46 in. acrylic and spray paint on canvas by Matthew Collins. (It's so new to us, it's not online yet, but if you're interested, give us a call or email!) www.gallery78.com

Have you seen this accent wall yet? It's shining in this morning's glorious sunshine. Pictured on the red wall over the fireplace is Storm Over Carleton County by Stephen Hutchings, and on either side is The Lacemaker by Marilyn McAvoy, and Bench and Phlox by Stephen May. Find them and more in February's exhibition, Eclectic: https://linktr.ee/gallery78 If you're downtown for a stroll, come for a visit! We're here 10-3.

Thank you Harris & Son Painters! The work is done and we are open today (Friday) until 4, and 10-3 on Saturday. The walls downstairs are hung, and we're working out way upstairs! https://linktr.ee/gallery78

The stunning piece that hangs over the fireplace on our new blue wall is a 30 x 38 in. oil on canvas by Stephen Scott, called September. It's hard to capture on a phone, which you saw in yesterday's install post, so here's the piece in all its glory! Find it online in February's exhibition, Eclectic: https://linktr.ee/gallery78

I'm all done up, and it feels amazing! The wonderful crew at Harris & Son Painters repainted all the walls a creamy white, a blue accent wall (pictured here) with the fireplace, a red accent wall in the next room, and they are finishing up the white upstairs. We also put a fresh coat of varnish on the floors - they are simply gleaming! This fun and eclectic exhibition for February is also online, and you can see more photos there. https://linktr.ee/gallery78

Are we sure it isn't December 24, because there are some new Réjean Roy paintings at the gallery and it feels like Christmas! They are lovely glimpses and snapshots of lush summer moments, like this lovely: Arc-en-ciel, a 24 x 30 in. oil on board. https://www.gallery78.com/artists/rejean-roy

We're never taking this jewellery off! It's nice and quiet here at the gallery, so we're taking some fun shots of the Christmas Choice jewellery. Pictured are two of Kristen Bishop's bronze cast iris pods and freshwater pearl necklaces. Keep some room for these in your Christmas gifts budget - we can't wait to show you more on Tuesday, December 1! https://www.gallery78.com/exhibitions/

In the words of Michael McEwing on his works in the current show, Wild and Domestic: "Many of the paintings are the result of a 2019 artist-in-residency with BiotaNBa biological inventory project run by the New Brunswick Museum that involves collecting data and samples from New Brunswick protected natural areas over a 20-year span. BiotaNB 2019 involved exploring natural areas around Kennedy Lakes in North-Central NB. Some of the works are also the result of exploring Shae L...ake Nature Preserve near Plaster Rock. Each year, BiotaNB offers artists the opportunity to work alongside the scientists in the project to express their findings in artistic form." Only two more weekends of this beautiful show! https://www.gallery78.com/exhibitions/wild-and-domestic

Welcome back! To make things as safe and comfortable as we can if you want to visit the gallery (for a change of scenery, inspiration, stillness, whatever you need!), we have a few steps in place: Please read the self screening questionnaire on the front door, and stay home if you feel any of the listed symptoms or fall into certain criteria. We scrub our door handles clean after each visitor, so you don't have to worry about touching it! (But it's still best not to touc...h your face until you've washed with soap & water. Our clean bathroom is upstairs for that reason.) You'll be asked to please use our hand sanitizer before proceeding. There is Kleenex too if you need to sneeze! Each room has a new maximum capacity, so that everyone can keep distance and comfortably enjoy the art. No more than 10 people in the gallery at one time. Nikki and Germaine will watch this, and lock the front doors when we are at capacity. Take a walk on the Green and come back in a few minutes! For touchless payments, we'll soon have a wireless terminal so you don't have to squeeze into our office with Nikki and Germaine. Masks will soon be available to purchase if you didn't come with your own, and staff will wear one if distancing is not possible. Enjoy the sunny day, stay safe, and we hope to see you soon! www.gallery78.com

Today is the last day to enjoy these beauties in person! While Liz Demerson's ceramics are off display next week, we'll always have them available online and in storage at the gallery. Oh, to be strolling on a beach and picking pretty rocks today! Bernard Quintal's watercolour paintings of rocks, driftwood, seaweed, and other ocean goodies, are giving me classic end of summer/early fall feelings. Most of the artworks featured in Nos voisins will be returning to the artists next week! It will be sad to see them go, but we're so honoured to have had them come together for this beautiful exhibition. https://www.gallery78.com//nos-voisins-de-la-cote-nord-et-

There's a new landscape in town, and it's big! This is a scene of Kangiqsujuaq by Raymond Martin that we picked up a couple weeks ago. We love getting lost in the mountains and streams. This piece must be seen in person!

"My first observations amidst the forest lead me to discover its raw, chaotic disorder from which gentle, orderly beauty arises. The overwhelming feeling of awe as the discovery goes on, of small floral details so well combined into one big pattern generates feelings of puzzled enchantment." // En forêt, organisées en sublime cohésion, les qualités paradoxales de chaos et d'équilibre matérialisées par les enchevêtrements de textures et de motifs éveillent mon attention. ... These are some words by Céline Genest on her colourful and thoughtful pieces in her series La Forêt Lointaine/The Deep Forest, some of which are featured in the current exhibition Nos voisins. We also have her figurative works, which flow superbly with her theme of enchantment. The figures seem like spirits, or fairies of the forest. Pictured are: L'étranger (oil on canvas, 30 x 40 in.), Les nocturnes (oil on canvas, 24 x 30 in.), and Présences (oil on canvas, 24 x 30 in.) https://gallery78.com//nos-voisins-de-la-cote-nord-et-de-l

The sculptural ceramics by Emilie Grace Lavoie are simply stunning - look at all the intricacies, the details, and colour! I must say, this piece, Sans titre 2, a b-mix clay with grog, is my favourite! Which is yours? View them all here: https://gallery78.com//nos-voisins-de-la-cote-nord-et-de-l

Serge V. Richard's photography from the series Mini-mondes/Tiny Worlds, is mysterious, dazzling, and unique. His photographs, which appear to be blurry sea or cityscapes, are microscopic shots of a single sculptural work of glass and stainless steel (pictured in the second and third image). BMO 1st Art! is a prestigious and high-profile national art contest attracting entries from 110 undergraduate art programs across Canada. An esteemed panel of jurors selected the work of Matt Cripps Pottery from a pool of 295 submissions - go Matt! Once again all is calm, and we have the next three weeks to enjoy these excellent exhibitions. Pictured is Vicky Lentz's The Silence Journal, a 2018 6x5' acrylic, pencil, tile spacers, Swarovski crystals and acrylic iridized beads on canvas. She writes: "Working during a residency for the Prix des Éloizes 2018, I created this grid work of over 400 of my thoughts, as they arise, about silence. With a simple lead pencil, the canvas filled like a personal diary of my experienc...e with silence."
