Happy Earth Day to this beautiful place we call home!

Gals That Give 17.05.2021

It's Member Monday. Meet ME LOL! Mandy Foster has been incredible at featuring our members within our Gals that Give group. Today was my day. I’m sharing with y...ou all in hopes that you may want to join our group. It’s been inspiring learning about each of the women in the group who love to give back to their community. For more information go to www.galsthatgive.ca NAME: Keira Brooks MEMBER OF GALS SINCE: 2019 A LITTLE ABOUT ME: I grew up and went to school in London, Ontario. I’ve lived on my own since I was 16 years old and had a number of struggles putting myself through school while working two jobs. Lost my step dad in a tragic car accident at 17 which was my kick in the butt to do something great with my life. Managed to overcome some steep obstacles and get hired by Peel Regional Police at 21 years old! Now I live, work and play with my wonderful husband and two amazing boys in the beautiful City of Barrie. A LITTLE ABOUT MY CAREER: I’m a proud serving, compassionate and caring police officer. I started in Peel in 1997 and made the decision to move to beautiful City of Barrie in 2001 where I could raise a family! I’ll never forget my first week which was Sept 11, 2001. How can any of us forget that week?! I’ve proudly been devoted to my career and my community for the past 24 years. WHY I JOINED GALS THAT GIVE: I remember growing up and being surrounded by inspiring teachers who gave me so much support and encouragement. Then I met a recruiter with Peel Police who gave me an opportunity/a chance and I promised/vowed I would always give back. This group allows me to give people opportunities and chances like I’ve been given CAUSES I AM PASSIONATE ABOUT: I’m very passionate about supporting victims of childhood sexual abuse, looking out for each other and not being a jerk!!! I really just want to show my boys that no matter your circumstances in life you have choices and being a good human is the number one choice for me!! MY HOPES AND DREAMS: I hope that I’ve left a positive imprint on the people I’ve met, the students I’ve taught and people I’ve loved along my journey. I hope that by sharing my life stories I‘ve inspired people to want more, be more, love more and never give up!! Finally and most importantly I hope that my boys grow up with an open heart and mind and find peace, love and happiness. You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. Dr. Maya Angelou I'D LOVE A FELLOW GIVING GAL TO ASK ME ABOUT: I’d just like anyone to feel comfortable talking to me about anything!!
