We're got our yarn, pattern, and ideas, it's time to get our Strange Brew started! As we are knitting top-down, we begin with the collar. Using a smaller sized needles, cast on your stitches. We like to use a relaxed Long Tail Cast On. Work K1, P1 ribbing for about an inch (depending on your size), and switch to the larger needles. If you are knitting an Adult size, there is a Set Up Round of increasing ahead of Increasing Round 1. Children's sizes just skip ahead to Increa...sing Round 1. You can use any kind of increasing here. While is was important to use m1L/m1R in the raglan sweater for symmetry along the seams, the increases in a yoke sweater are dispersed and will hopefully just blend into the knitting. We happened to use m1L (as shown in the photo) since it lies flat once it is worked. Using the left needle, pickup up the strand between the left and right needles and knit into the back leg. In the instructions, Increasing Round 1 comes immediately after the Set Up Round. We are not fans of putting increases right on top of each other (it can create a lot of tension problems), so we added two rounds of plain knitting in between. For a thicker Aran weight, one round would be enough. After another round of increasing with Increasing Round 1, we're ready to start the colourwork!
