The Gander Foodbank will be closed tonight Monday February 8 due to the weather.

The Gander and Area Foodbank would like to extend our deep appreciation to Evangel Gander for the use of your facility for our Christmas hamper program this year. Your overhang was amazing today as we battled this windy, wet weather. What a gem of a building! Our gratitude is also extended to our donors of both food and monetary donations. The Gander and Area Foodbank is now closed until January 4, 2021. We would like to express our thanks and gratitude to all individuals, groups and businesses that have contributed to our Christmas hamper program through donations of food and/or monetary donations. This region has been extremely generous this season. Your support makes our Christmas hamper program possible. Thank you!

The Gander and Area Food Bank advises that our hours of service, as of September 8th are: Monday 6 -8 pm Tuesday 1 -3 pm Thursday 6 - 8 pm... There have been some changes . Hampers are given out by appointment only. Clients must call 651-3663 and leave name and telephone number. A volunteer will reply to your call with your appointment time. We advise only one client at a time entering the Foodbank. Masks are required, unless there is an underlying condition which would prevent wearing one. Please as well, bring your own bags in clean/sanitary condition.

We have had a large donation of bread, lettuce and other greens from Dominion. We will be open tonight for pick up of these items only from 6:30-8:00. One person only at a time to come into the Foodbank. Please respect social distancing requirements. Masks required. This will not count as your monthly hamper. We do not want this food to go to waste. Please bring your own bags.

The Gander and Area Food Bank would like to say a big thank you to Bell Aliant for their donation of cash and back packs to the Back Pack for Kids Program. A volunteer is accepting the donation on behalf of the food bank.

Anne Hicks of the Subway presented a cheque to the Food Bank today. Over three days from June 15 - 17 Subway donated $1 for every foot long sub that was sold. Photo shown.

The Foodbank will reopen Saturday March 21. Hampers are by appointment ONLY. Please email [email protected] or call 651-3663. Your name and phone number are required. A volunteer will call you back with an appointment time. Clients will be asked to show ID at a window to the volunteer. The volunteer will bring the hamper to a table located outside the Foodbank. Clients are NOT to enter the Foodbank. Clients are asked to wait in their cars or at least two arm lengths ...from each other - social distancing. Clients will be assigned a number and asked to present to the table at their time given and when their number is posted.

Gander and Area Foodbank will be reopening hopefully within the next 48 hours. Current clients are asked to contact the foodbank at [email protected] to request their food items. Please provide your name and phone number in your email for us to call you. A phone number for clients to call will be available shortly. Clients will be contacted by a Foodbank volunteer to arrange a pickup time for their items. There will be NO drop-in service.... Food will be distributed as per social distancing guidelines to ensure safety of Foodbank volunteers and clients. Please bear with us as we establish new protocols for the Gander and Area Foodbank during these difficult times. The health and safety of our volunteers and clients is of utmost importance to us. A call for monetary donations from local businesses and residents will be coming shortly! We cannot accept food donations from private households at this time. Since announcing our closure recently, we have been contacted by one of our volunteers who would like to keep it opened in a manner that is safe for clients and volunteers. Please see attached her own facebook post which she allowed us to share with you. Know that we are working with her to move forward with its feasibility: Good morning FB friends.... As many of you may know I volunteer at the Gander Food Bank. With approval from the Gander Foodbank, I am heading an effort to try and reopen our Foodbank in a different format that will provide a safe environment for all as per the social distancing guidelines outlined by Drs Haggie and Fitzgerald.
