We, at the Town of Gander would like to offer our sincere condolences on the passing of Prince Phillip. We fondly think back to the many times he and the Queen came to visit Gander and their sincere enthusiasm towards our town.
Unga spent some time in Gander during 9/11 when the plane she was on diverted to our town, RIP to her, she was a special ape. Columbus zoo was so grateful to th...e residents in this town for helping them that they named her son Gander. Thanks to all that was done by Gander residents who got her off the aircraft safely and looked after her. She was then able to live an additional 20 years and have many children. See more

A rare aircraft operated by Samaritan's Purse visited Gander today. The 1968 Douglas DC-8-72CF was a frequent visitor to Gander during the 70's and 80's but mo...st have long since been retired. Samaritan's Purse is an evangelical Christian humanitarian aid organization and this particular flight was returning from Ethiopia where it airlifted life-saving food to suffering children in the Tigray region of northern Ethiopia. Right now, we may struggle to find something to celebrate in aviation but hats off to those who are keeping things moving and here’s to everyone getting through this safely!
The end of a long day. Our Director of Operations Brian Hicks caught this IL-76, silhouetted by a sinking sun.
Happy 50th Birthday to the L-1011. This amazing airplane’s first flight took place on November 16, 1970. Here are a few pics of the several thousand that have stopped at Gander over years! Sadly, only one is currently flying!
Earlier this year, we began transforming our aircraft to allow for cargo to be carried in our cabin. Since then, we have helped move urgent medical supplies and... goods to support the global economy. This past weekend, we've proudly completed our 3000th cargo-only flight. 9/11 nearly two decades later. People continue to send thanks. This was not an act of heroism. This was basic humanity. Help others because you can. ... Open your doors to those in need. Open minds. Open hearts. Open arms. We remember the fallen. We thank the true heroes.
