Unga spent some time in Gander during 9/11 when the plane she was on diverted to our town, RIP to her, she was a special ape. Columbus zoo was so grateful to th...e residents in this town for helping them that they named her son Gander. Thanks to all that was done by Gander residents who got her off the aircraft safely and looked after her. She was then able to live an additional 20 years and have many children. See more

A rare aircraft operated by Samaritan's Purse visited Gander today. The 1968 Douglas DC-8-72CF was a frequent visitor to Gander during the 70's and 80's but mo...st have long since been retired. Samaritan's Purse is an evangelical Christian humanitarian aid organization and this particular flight was returning from Ethiopia where it airlifted life-saving food to suffering children in the Tigray region of northern Ethiopia.
