Gander Oceanic OCA

Introducing Fact Fridays, every Friday we are bringing to you a new fact about the Ocean and it’s airspace. If you have any ideas feel free to share your thoughts to [email protected] via email. Did you know ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast) automatically and continually broadcasts surveillance data to any station that can receive them? These transmission are transmitted via the Mode-S Transponder. Similarly ADS-C (Automatic Dependent Surveillance... Contract) also transmits accurate position reports to the station that is able to receive them. However unlike ADS-B, ADS-C depends on "contract" between the station receiving them. The contract determines which information is to be sent out and when. This information is not broadcasted to any station like ADS-B, but only to the station that is in contract with the aircraft. Fun fact ADS-B reports are transmitted in plain text and you can actually receive them on a home PC and even share them automatically to popular flight tracking apps such as Flight Aware.
