BRB, A Statement! When the pandemic lockdowns started just over a year ago, we decided to keep our doors open and serve our community. We felt fortunate to be able to send Easter dinners to families spending time apart & deliver Mother’s Day dinners with flowers to your homes. You supported us through the hardest part of it all. After reopening on June 5th of 2020, we built an excellent team, designed the pergolas on our patio, and started the drag show series with our comm...unity partners. Then came the second lockdown in December as we were getting ready to serve you with fun Christmas & NYE plans. But we didn’t let the lockdown get us down: we continued improving the space, planned more shows, and started the @secretgardenhfx series. It’s been a slice since January reopening too. We have hosted so many of you, held some 6 sold out events, brought musical talents in & have made significant changes to our service quality and food. We are excited to embrace a busy summer serving you, but we recognize that this latest shutdown is necessary to keep our community safe. This time around, we have decided not to continue with our takeout model right away. We are the happiest when we can serve you at the restaurant. Plus, our team can use a short time off. This will be a mental health break for our team, a time to go out to nature, file our taxes, have Zoom calls with our family & friends, and spend more time with our cats and dogs. Given the massive mobilization by our wonderful community, we think this shutdown will be short. If the shutdown continues beyond a couple weeks, we will be back again with improved ways of serving you remotely. This is all to say, the Garden will be closed as of tomorrow (Sunday, April 25th) at 6pm for at least a few days. So, order your brunch tomorrow, get dinner to go and enjoy a special deal on the cheeseboards. While we are gone, we will be improving the space and have planned some fun content, so follow along. We are extending that closure voluntarily and we are closed for dine-in effective immediately. Over the past several months, we have had the pleasure of working with @zaramatrix @thewoodshiphop and many other dedicated performers in bringing you a number of drag shows at the Garden. Zara and her team have been very diligent in following all COVID restrictions and guidelines and working hard to ensure they bring the shows to our community at a time that when we needed them the most. The Garden team has been learning about the queer culture and the diversity within the q...ueer community because Zara and her team are intentional about highlighting that diversity. And you have been amazing supporters of the shows all along. All events have sold out within days if not hours! If you haven’t been to one yet, don’t worry because we are planning more shows this summer. WE SHALL NEVER REBUILD HALIFAX UNLESS EVERYBODY WORKS After Halifax Explosion of 1917, this poster started circulating around Halifax, encouraging people to work together to rebuild our city. Just over 100 years from that time, we find ourselves in yet another difficult historic period. This poster has been sitting in our restaurant since July to remind us of the work ahead in rebuilding our community. With that, we would like to share an update about our operations. While ...not required by health officials, we recognize our responsibility in stopping the virus in its tracks. As such, for the safety of our staff and guests, we have decided to make the difficult decision to close our restaurant for dine-in and go back to pick-up and deliveries only. So, starting Monday, November 24, we will not be open for dine-in until further notice. We will be offering salads, sandwiches, soups, ready to heat meals, as well as brunch and soon, our infamous Sunday family dinners, all for pickup and delivery! You can order food directly from us using our website and our dedicated app. You can also find us on Skip the Dishes. We will also be at the outdoor festivals @evergreenfestns and Shopping Under The Stars @springgardenarea for takeout food and delicious beverages. Thank YOU for the amazing support since the beginning of COVID. You have been there for us since March, and because of you we are still here today. We would also like to take a moment to extend our gratitude to every single one of our staff members for all their incredible work as well. Along with government’s support programs for them, we have also put measures in place to support them through these difficult times. We will also be supporting our arts community in any way we can, more on that soon. We look forward to the day that we can safely reopen to create more memories for you, your friends and family. We would like to take a moment to remind everyone of our existing COVID guidelines and new additional measures. As we get ready for our Thanksgiving dinner, we just had a flashback to our weekly Sunday family dinners during the lockdowns. Those were difficult times but we felt the love of our amazing community. We are forever thankful for your support during those difficult times.
