Hello & Happy Friday, Are you noticing new growth in your perennial beds? It’s time to start cleaning them up especially before new growth tangles up with the old growth. I always start with my daylilies by raking and then cutting the dead leaves away before too much of the new plant comes up . Instead of doing a fall cleanup I leave most plant material in my beds as protection for the fall and winter months. As much as I’d love to have a much cleaner look in my beds come ...early spring I’d rather give my plants a better chance of surviving our cold months with a little insulation. Most pollinators and insects over winter in the old growth of these plants.
