Indian cuisine consists of a variety of reg...ional and traditional cuisines native to the Indian subcontinent. Given the diversity in soil, climate, culture, ethnic groups, and occupations, these cuisines vary substantially and use locally available spices, herbs, vegetables, and fruits. . We have created a menu that incorporates all of these subcontinents and their ingredients! Each meal is full of flavour, made with quality house mixed spice blends. But not spicy! You all really enjoyed the before and after a so here’s another! The accommodations upstairs had not been lived in for 30yrs! It was an interesting opportunity to use foresight and believe in potential. We removed the carpet to find BEAUTIFUL pine wood floors! Some wall repairs, painting and floor finishing later....we have a home. The only part left is to complete the upstairs bathroom.... The space is now very lived in with LEGO and video game controllers scattered about!

We thought you might like a little sneak peak of what’s been going on around here the last 2 months. After phase 1 of private apt renovation, we have moved down to the restaurant. The dining room has received a fresh coat of paint and some rearranging. Opening up the space and creating a bright inviting space. Our vision for the front room include more then fine dining! We cannot wait to add final touches in there! The kitchen it in the middle of an overhaul! So far we have ...sorted the inventory of Crowley and glasswears, done a deep cleanse, rebuilt the fridge floor and updated the line floor. Which we LOVE! Our new line will arrive this weekend and then we move on to creating flow and efficiently in all the spaces! We have been enjoying a balance of hard work, rest and exploring this past 2 months. Getting to know our new homestead and community has been a pleasure so far to say the least. Thank you all so very much for all your excitement and engagement as we continue to work toward an opening date. It’s safe to say dine in will not be available until spring. However, we hope to host some exciting events and offer take out as soon as possible. From our family to yours, Happy Fall Equinox! We hope you can get outside and enjoy some of the beautiful offerings of the season!

A bit more about us! This is the Hemstreet Crew! We arrived mid July from south western Ontario. Amidst the 2020 pandemic the Hemstreet crew managed to make all their dreams come true. Acquiring the Garden’s Gate Family Restaurant and homestead was a swift and elegant shift into this young families highest potential.... Osiris, 8, enjoys technology and learning. His favourite part of the island so far is horseback riding at Kicking Mule. Vinny, 6, is an avid adventurer. The first to eagerly follow Papa into the woods and find treasures. He loves to read and thinks Mums Bakery has top notch fritters. (We all agree!!) The boys keep their parents on their toes and are eager to play a role in the families new venture. Moving from their home down south was not an easy task, but they are quickly adapting to their new normal and hope to be managers one day! The family came to Manitoulin in hopes of attaining a more sustainable lifestyle and reap the benefits of such a move. With a collective 5 decades of experience in the service and food industry, a deep love of nature and passion for making people smile, The Gardens Gate Restaurant was an easy decision. So they packed up their home and moved 7 hours north, renovated the apartment on site and got to work on the next chapter of this lands rich history. Thank you all for your support and engagement this weekend as we shared more about us!

A bit about us! This is Sheina. Sheina is also classically trained in French cuisine and service. She spent her first 15 years in the work force exploring all facets of restaurant and food service. Including the 2009 season at Red Lodge Resort, located on Manitoulin Island. A time Sheina would look back on with such pride and peace for an entire decade. A self proclaimed guide of light and spreader of love. Sheina was delighted to find this sacred land that would bring her fu...ll circle. Sheina has owned and operated 3 businesses in the last decade and prides herself in the knowledge and networks gained. Working as a professional doula, life coach and artist her following is diverse and far reaching. Sheina works as an intuitive artist and oracle serving clients across Canada and the USA. Creating a space to connect and an opportunity to create beautiful spaces in homes and sacred spaces. A bit about us! This is Kevin! Kevin spent the last 12 years honing his skills and expanding his network. As a Chef technician at Fanshawe College he was responsible for helping to shape hundreds of culinary students from all over the world. This also fed his passion for learning and affording him the opportunity to vastly grow his cooking repertoire to include recipes from all over the world. Classically trained in French cuisine, followed by a decade stint as a sous chef i...n a revered Italian restaurant, Kevin has mastered his skills in the kitchen. With almost 3 decades of devotion to the craft. Kevin is an avid gardener and takes great pride in his ability to cultivate with the earth. He also enjoys fishing, reading and foraging. Always eager to explore and learn more, while passing on the knowledge and experiences to his young boys. Since moving up here they have managed to find and identify almost a dozen different mushrooms. Even enjoying a perfectly grown and prepared puffball last week. Kevin loves the idea of taking the islands offering and infusing it with his passion for international cuisine. I look forward to spicing things up around here in terms of cuisine!
