"My name is Steven Myles and I'm from Churchill Falls, Newfoundland and Labrador. I participated in the Explore Program 'En Français à Québec' at Collège St. Charles-Garnier in 2015 and 2016 as a student, and as an animateur in 2017 and 2019. This program has changed my life in so many ways. I only had the chance to do Core French throu...ghout school so my experience in Québec truly opened the door for me to pursue my love of the language. After the two summers in Québec as a student, my French level improved considerably and I was given the chance to work there the following summer. As an animateur and as a student, I learned so much about myself and a lot of French. Friends and coworkers become family and those four summers mean everything to me. The explore program has impacted me so much, that I just finished a French degree and hope to become a teacher. Many students have enjoyed our international programs throughout the past 45 years. 2021 may not be a summer as we were used to, but our passion and our dynamic pedagogical approach are still part of us. Let's get news from some former students to see where their participation to our French immersion program led them. "My name is Rachel Power, and I live in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador. I participated in the Explore program at Collège Saint-Charles Garnier as a ...student in 2017 and 2018, and then returned as a monitor in-training in 2019. The experience that I had at the camp was truly life changing. It took me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to participate in activities that I would have never thought that I would enjoy but wound up loving. It helped me go from being an anxious person who did not want to try anything to growing into someone who wanted to try new things and meet new people. Having the opportunity to be in the position of monitor in-training with the program was also one of the best things I have ever done, and really helped me figure out exactly what I wanted to do with my life, which is why I am currently studying to become a French immersion teacher. After returning from the camp, I felt more confident in my language abilities and was able to speak/write with more fluency, thanks to the classes that I participated in as a student and the total immersion that I was in when I participated. Many of my teachers and professors noticed the difference! I have gained some of my most valuable memories and closest friends from En Français à Québec and could truly not recommend the program more to anyone who is looking to improve their French and who wants to explore what the beautiful province of Quebec and Saint-Charles Garnier has to offer."
