Garrison Archery Club 01.11.2020

Just a reminder about the AGM tomorrow. The Zoom meeting ID will be sent to members later this evening. If you are a member and don't get the email later, or looking to join us as a member or volunteer, please message us.

The board would like to make an announcement and request We are looking to bring this year's AGM slightly forward, to give us a chance to talk to everyone about the future of the club and explore the options. Covid-19 has also left us in a difficult position, with not knowing when we will be able to meet at the school again. The time has also come when our current committee must hang up their hats and pass the torch onto a new volunteer team. Not only is their tenure at an e...nd but, changes in career and family situations etc, have meant that most of the team are no longer able to commit to the club in the same way. Our concern, however, is that there does not seem to be enough interest in volunteers coming forward to take over. We have recently seen 2 (much bigger and longer-established) BC clubs almost close because of low volunteer numbers, and, as much as we would love to see the club continue, we may also have to consider that possibility. Of course, we would first like to give someone the opportunity to take over the club. What will this involve? You will take over and receive all the club’s equipment, paperwork (yes it is all up to date) all of its current members, and its financials. The club, as a whole, is a healthy well-run club with no financial issues. The club will need 5 new board members and you will be guided by current board members who are willing to teach you everything you need to know to run successfully run the club. The club also needs 1 person to train and qualify as a coach for the Junior Archery Program (JOP), and 2 people to qualify as safety officers. The safety officers would be the priority and the test is a free, online open-book test. The deadline for volunteers is June 30. After that date, if we have not heard from enough volunteers, we will have no choice but to begin the procedure to dissolve the club. So, what does that mean if that happens? All members that have paid their membership fees will retain their BC Archery Association membership and BCAA numbers, as that is a portion paid to BC Archery and we cannot refund. Depending on the audit, a proportioned remainder of the membership fee will be refunded. This will come to your homes in cheque form, if we close. All the equipment and remaining monies must go to another not-for-profit archery club, and the details will be open to discussion/suggestion by the remaining members. Hopefully this will not be good bye and the club will have new leadership. We would like to thank all of our members for their support over the years. We would like to thank all the members that lent us a hand with take downs and setups. We also wish to thank Doug and Chantal Joiner for the use of their field in the summer months.

The schedule has been updated for March! Please note... We are in desperate need of volunteers to help with the session on Monday 9th March - particularly with set-up on 6.30pm and take-down at 8.30/8.45pm. Also... since the school will be closed for Spring Break, there will be no archery for those 2 weeks (March 16 and 23).

ARCHERY TONIGHT IS CANCELLED Sorry folks... not enough of the white stuff has melted yet to allow us to free our target trailer from it's snowy tomb, plus the side roads around it are still compacted snow and ice - and we really don't want to see our valuable volunteers get hurt or our equipment get damaged. So archery is also postponed for 1 more week. For anyone booked into the Try-It Session, I will be in touch about rescheduling.

ARCHERY TONIGHT IS CANCELLED Due to this lovely dump of snow, the schools are closed, so archery is also cancelled. For anyone booked into the Try-It Session, (weather-permitting again) we will re-schedule your reservation for next week's session (Jan 20).

Happy New Year! The new schedule for January has been posted (on our FB page cover picture, as always!)... We are now in that fun weather season, though, so please note that sessions may get cancelled if the schools close for a snow day, or if we feel it is not safe to drive the trailer to the school. We will announce any session cancellations on this FB page, so check here before heading out! :-)
