It's not just because of the added wear it will put on those snow tires, but because they may actually fail as the rubber compound will heat up due to their construction. Really! Don't get CAUGHT in the HOT! (good one eh?) An update on business here at Garrows: Our waiting room is open and it's business as usual (sort of) here. But please note, we do not have public bathrooms available at this time. Our shop is only open to employees as well, so all deliveries or inquiries can only take place via our main door. We are following all Covid-19 protocol for your safety and ours. We have been so fortunate to be in an area where team work has allowed us to avoid any major outbreaks. Well done everyone!! I will be here in the mornings for the rest of the week to book any repairs that you may need. If it’s an emergency repair before then, I can make arrangements to look after you. It's that time of year...with these crazy temperature swings your tire pressure can go up and down like a toilet seat at a house party. Every 10 degree jump or drop can affect your tire pressure by 2 psi or more. Considering a lot of cars still only run with 30-35 psi, it can make quite a difference! Many of us still have our snow tires on. (highly recommended, don't be fooled, the snow and ice is not over yet) Snow tires have softer rubber to help with grip on slippery surfa...ces. So when it gets warmer, AND the tires become softer, AND the pressure in your tires goes a bit wonky...this can lead to ugly tire wear! So the moral of the story is this: Check and adjust your tire pressure frequently during these months of -10 to +15 days. It could save you a ton of $$$$ in the long run. Do you have a timing belt or chain in your engine? What does it matter? It matters A LOT! Timing belts are outside your engine (sort of) and don't get any lubrication. They eventually dry out and will break. That's when pistons will hit valves (for those not familiar with automotive terms, this means you engine goes BOOM) and you are often left with a HUGE bill for a new engine or a junk car. NO FUN Timing chains are inside the engine housing, and get oil from the engine i...tself. They need service far less often than belts. The moral of the story is this: If you have a timing belt, when was it last replaced? If you don't know, you need to come see us, maybe we can find out. (there is sometimes a label under the hood or elsewhere) If you don't know which you have, we can tell you. Either way it's one of those things you need to know. Recently a friend of one of our customers (who should have come to see us) had a 2010 Honda Accord with only 180 km go to the scrap yard because his timing belt let go. Don't be a timing belt victim!
