Research compiled by KFN band member- Brandon Gabriel, A Gabriel family spokesperson. Subject: Kwantlen First Nation/Fort Langley Properties Partnership (KFN/F...LP)- Addition to Reserve Lands (ATR) proposal. Timeline: June -Aug 2019- Eric Woodward (EW), Founder of the Eric Woodward Foundation (EWF), and Brenda Knights (BK) , CEO Of the Seyem' Business Group(SBG), hold private meetings. September 2019- BK and EW sign confidentiality agreement. Only senior SBG staff are aware of this. January 2020- A Letter of Intent is submitted to KFN Chief and Council by the Eric Woodward Foundation. No agreements were signed completing any land deals with KFN (that are known of.) March 4th 2020- Rachelle Cashato posts on "My Fort Langley" fb page, a leaked press release about a land partnership between KFN and EWF. Mrch 5TH 2020- Full press release and marketing campaign issued by EWF regarding a land partnerrship with KFN. All EWF social media pages, "My Fort Langley" page, Vancouver Sun, and Langley Advance Times report the news. March 5th 2020- KFN Chief and Council and Elders Council meet. Elders Council verbally condemns the land deal. (Four elders attempt to speak publicly against the proposal, with no official support from KFN Chief and Council.) March 9th 2020- CEO Brenda Knights and Rachelle Cashato appear as a delegation to ToL council proceedings promoting the land deal. EW submits demolition permits based on his deal made with KFN and Brenda Knights. March 10th 2020- KFN Land Advisory Committee meets and widespread opposition is voiced, with no resolution. Tumia Knott explains no talks were on the table between KFN Chief and Council and the EWF at that time. That only minor preliminary documents were obtained by KFN. March 11th 2020- band member led press release is issued. Citing opposition and faked quotes of KFN leaders used in EWF and SBG press reports. March 14th 2020- KFN Lands Advisory Committee meets. Widespread opposition is maintained at the table, and a call for further discussion and for a vote is tabled and set. March 15th 2020- Langley Advance Times reports on oppositional stances on the land deal in KFN. EW maintains that the "partnership" was in good standing, and dismisses detractors interviewed in the article. (COVID19 quarantine goes into effect. No meetings were held in KFN.) April 16th 2020- KFN Chief and Council issue internal memorandum to KFN members, formally re-affirming that no leaders or staff members have had any official contact with EWF since the press release on March 5th 2020. All staff members including SBG executives were ordered to halt communications with EWF prior to and after the memo release. May 14th 2020- KFN LAC meeting. Unanimous (13-0) verbal vote in favor of ending all talks with EWF. The verbal vote is then carried to a formal written vote scheduled on another date. (Chief Marilyn Gabriel, Councilor Tumia Knott, Councilor Les Antone, and CEO Brenda Knights were the only administrators outside of the LAC table to have knowledge about the outcome. May 23rd 2020- Langley Heritage Society Facebook Page reports land being gifted to KFN. (Shows aerial photo of demolished buildings. ) May 26th 2020- demolition crews take down buildings on properties claimed to be transferred to the KFN based on approved permits. May 27th 2020- (Demolition crews were still tearing down buildings.) Eric Woodward posts a comment on his political page explaining his positive relationship with KFN Band Councillor "Ms. Knott". Explaining the ATR with KFN was a great deal for KFN and that the deal would go through, with minor challenges that lay in the way. He dismissed a band member press release by calling it "fake", and that opposition was only coming from a small group of people in KFN. (The screenshot of his comments were submitted to KFN Lands Officers that same day.) May 28th 2020, written votes are mailed out to LAC committee members. May 29th 2020- all votes submitted and were tallied the day after the voting packages were handed out. (Preliminary findings would have only been seen by the Lands officers, Chief Marilyn Gabriel, Tumia Knott, Councilor Les Antone, and Brenda Knights.) May 29th 2020- KFN Band Council member Tumia Knott responds to band member concern about Eric Woodward's May 27th comments Facebook comments. Explaining KFN has no official contact with Eric Woodward about any ATR proposals since March 5 2020. That Mr. Woodward was using is own ideas about his land deal on his social media pages with no knowledge from KFN leaders. June 4th 2020- Results of the LAC vote were 13 No's with 2 abstentions. Members vote to discontinue all talks with EWF. September 16th 2020- KFN band member, LAC committee member, and journalist Robert Jago secures legal support from the BCCLA and issues a press release through the Yellowhead Institute at Ryerson University in Toronto. To bring forward concerns about suppression of free speech by Chief and Council, and Staff of the SBG against band members. National media is now reporting on the BCCLA intervention.
