The Regional District of Nanaimo has completed the Greater Nanaimo Pollution Control Centre (GNPCC) Secondary Treatment Upgrade Project. The federal Gas Tax Fund contributed $6 million to the upgrades. The GNPCC is the largest of the regional district’s four treatment plants, and serves residents in the City of Nanaimo, District of Lantzville, and Snuneymuxw First Nations. The Federal Gas Tax Fund in British Columbia 23.05.2021

The federal government has introduced Bill C25 which, if it becomes law, would transfer an additional $2.2 billion to municipalities and First Nations communities in 2021 through the federal Gas Tax Fund. This increase will effectively double allocations for local government recipients for 2021/22. On March 25, 2021, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland announced $2.2 billion will be transferred to municipalities and First Nations communities in 2021, doubling the annual federal Gas Tax Fund allocation amount.
