We just had some fresh beef and pork products come, and needless to say we are suffering from sticker shock. We have reduced our margin to cost on ground beef which is $18.38/kg!!! We have also reduced our margin on 10lb Pork Loin chops now - 45.09 and 10lb Pork Butt Chops - 43.49. We are just as disgusted at these prices as you are and are doing what we can to lessen the price burden. We will have to go on the land soon and put that on our shelves to sell!!

This is Dwight. I’m going to try to shed some light on the ‘gas situation’. I’ve been completely off grid for the last 4 1/2 days with just inreach text to a ...select few people. I didn’t know about the huge gas price hike until Wednesday evening via an inreach text. It came as a result of applications made by wholesalers to the PUB because they were losing significant $. I got an inventory count from staff, again via inreach and did some quick math on the 25,000L in stock. We had 45,000L in stock in March when the price went crashing, and by the time that stock was sold and all March stock we had seen well over $10,000 in stock value loss. We bought gas last Thursday April 9. Wednesday night we had 25,000L left. IF we took full advantage of the overnight .30 price hike we would not have fully recooped the March losses. I made the decision then and there to put our price to 1.201 to recoop $5000 and leave $2500 in the pockets of consumers. I thought that was more than fair, and fired off an inreach text to staff to do so. So this is it. It is what it is. I’m fair, try to operate as a profitable business and treat people and staff fairly at the same time. I was away enjoy some much needed time with family when all this went down, but I have no regrets on how we handled it given the very limited communications. Our local competitor followed suit on the price that we went with. That’s their prerogative, I’ll leave it at that. Good morning Gateway Customers. We are out of gas this morning. The tanker truck is on its way this morning. There was a lot of unexpected bulk buying yesterday, and after a ration for 4 hrs, we still ran out! Hopefully we will be pumping by noon or shortly after. On a more positive note we have this treasured item in stock today! $3.99! Limit of 2 per customer. More on order.

Gateway Convenience Presents a Virtual Family Scavenger Hunt Rules -All participants must use social distancing when playing in this Scavenger hunt. That means pictures can only come from inside their own homes or the great outdoors. Do not go in other peoples homes or stores for this scavenger hunt or your pictures won’t count.... -The Scavenger hunt list will be posted on Gateway’s FB Page at 1 pm Monday March 30th. -The first family to post their photo album on their own facebook and comment ‘Done!’on Gateway’s list will win a $25 gas certificate from our store. -So you upload your album on your own facebook page and then click done on this post. When the first done is posted I will check their facebook for their pictures. If they do not have all the pictures I will then go to the second done on this post.

Just a couple more minutes and we will post the scavenger hunt photo list. Remember the rules you must social distance. You are not permitted in others houses or the stores.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve we are continually trying to adapt our business practises in the best interests of customers and employees. Effective immediately, Gateway will be closing at 7pm daily. We have also decided to add Hero pay for our frontline workers who are considered to be offering essential services during this time.... We urge you to please call in orders for delivery, and avoid entering the store as much as possible. Our grocery stocks took a beating this past week, but new trucks should be here today/tonight.

Just in case a staff member or a customer contracts COVID-19, beginning today, March 23, we will be recording the name and date of everyone who enters the store. This is simply to help with contact tracing. If one of our staff should get it, contact tracing would be nearly impossible without this information.

In light of increased cases of COVID-19 in NL we are reiterating our precautions and policies, and asking customers to please reduce your visits to our shop. We are pleased to see that the cases in Labrador seem to be contained so far, but feel that customers are not taking social distancing seriously enough. We very much appreciate your business, but please try to make a list and maybe fill a can or two of gas in an effort to reduce your number of visits to our store to ev...ery few days, or even once a week. Visits everyday and multiple times a day are not acceptable while we all make a combined effort to slow the spread of COVID-19. -We will deliver once a day between 4-5pm if you would like to phone in orders. -We will take pre-payment for gas by phone and pump it for you when you arrive. -Limit of two customers in the shop at a time. Please stay 6ft apart. -If you have any flu or COVID-19 like symptoms we require that you not visit our shop at this time. At this time we are not reducing hours as we have no issue with time to sanitize, and we feel that reduced hours would result in more people visiting the store in a shorter amount of time.
