Have you seen the video where Seinfeld and friends can't find their car in a parking garage? It's pretty funny and a problem many people have. I am one of them and regularly find myself searching for my vehicle even though the remote is equipped with a panic button. One of the best ideas I’ve come across to help tackle this issue is to use a smartphone to video the walk from the vehicle to the destination, namely the mall or store’s entrance door. Just record your route placing your phone off to the side of your shoulder with the camera facing out as if taking a selfie. When ready to return to your vehicle, go to the end of your recording and swipe backwards as this will show the route taken in reverse. Photo Radar remains active throughout the province even amid the pandemic. In Winnipeg, photo radar has both permanent and temporary locations. On weekends or late afternoons around 5-6 p.m., keep a watch out for ghost cars especially in construction zones even when there is no active construction work. Be especially careful if you become the pace car or are in a transition situation where you are nearing a lower speed zone such as city or town limits. In construction zones, ensure you have completely left the zone before speeding up. Today is Day 1 for the New Parts Business Rules Program at Gateway Autobody Ltd. Created by MPI in consultation with provincial industry associations, the new business rules allow Manitoba autobody shops greater independence to select the optimal parts type and supplier by putting shops back in the driver’s seat. Instead of MPI directing the part type to be used in a repair, the shop's Estimator decides which part type best meets customer needs and vehicle repair. These same rules also permit shops to source parts directly from dealerships, aftermarket parts suppliers, or recyclers. Net result shorter cycle times, higher customer satisfaction and less administrative work.

Autobody damage is a major inconvenience for people from the perspective of out-of-pocket repair-related costs (such as insurance deductible and depreciation) and the time it takes to get an estimate. Thanks to new smartphone technology and their enhanced photo and video features new consumer photo estimating applications have emerged #photobasedestimating. These photo estimating apps feature easy to follow directions ensuring optimal photos and are aimed at enhancing customer convenience. While not every claim is a good candidate for photo-based estimating, those that are make getting an estimate more efficient and, in the future, might replace or augment the process for documenting and reporting claims to the insurance company #vehicleinsuranceclaims.
