Spots are available for our May 28th drive! Did you know that dogs have blood types? Blood typing in dogs is using a Dog Erythrocyte Antigen (DEA) System and there are 7 internationally recognized blood groups. For each blood group a dog can be positive or negative for each antigen but the DEA 1 group is considered to be the most important. This is because it is the most likely culprit to cause a severe reaction if the blood types do not match. If a dog has never had a blo...od transfusion before they can actually receive any blood type in an emergency! However, if multiple transfusions are in order or a dog's transfusion history is unknown then matching the blood types to the patient is important prior to performing the transfusion. Just as there are universal donors for people, there are universal donors for dogs and these blood types are important to have available in an emergency when there may not be time to cross-match blood types! Contact Krissie by phone (519-653-1003) or email ([email protected]) if you are interested in enrolling your dog! They must be between the ages of 1-8 years old, at least 55lbs and should be fairly comfortable in a veterinary setting. See more

Gateway Pet Hospital 28.04.2021

Last weekend our Gateway family had to make the excruciating decision to help our beautiful girl Fiona cross the rainbow bridge. She developed a very rapidly spreading, inoperable rectal tumour a few weeks ago and, despite our efforts, her quality of life declined quickly. We could not allow her to suffer and so she was euthanized last Monday, surrounded by her people. Fiona was never a cuddly cat, she didn't particularly enjoy being handled but that doesn't mean she wasn't ...an absolute sweetheart. She enjoyed relaxing in the staff room and would enjoy sitting with those on their lunch break and keep them company. Courtney lovingly described her as being the best listener around! She loved her food and her favourite activity was seeing if she could push the staff to feed her just a little earlier every day! We miss our sweet Fiona but are grateful for the time we had with her and will keep her in our hearts, always.

We are big fans of our patients Emmy and Parker and of course their mom! She is a photographer and makes lovely pet products (bandanas, bowties, tags) that you can see on her page

As the province enters a new stage of lockdown on December 24th we want to let you know that our operations are not changing. Because we have been able to maintain protocols to ensure the safety of our staff and clients we were not mandated to make any changes in this new phase. However, we do still encourage the use of telemedicine whenever possible to reduce points of contact. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns about our protocols. As a reminder we will be closed as of 1pm on December 24th and will re-open at 8am on Tuesday, December 29th.

Please note our upcoming holiday hours. If you will need food or medication over the holidays please allow for lots of extra time for your order to come in. Between shipping delays and supplier shortages we want to allow lots of cushion to avoid anyone running out!
