One important thing to remember is that happiness isn't a state of constant euphoria. Instead, happiness is an overall sense of experiencing more positive emotions than negative ones. - I know things will get better. - I can deal with what is happening. - I will be able to feel happy again. ... "I have chosen to be happy because it is good for my health" -Voltaire

A migraine is a strong headache that often comes with nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light. While the exact cause of migraine headache is unknown, it is thought to be related to changes in the brain with a genetic component. Current thinking is that a migraine likely starts when overactive nerve cells send out signals that trigger the trigeminal nerve, which gives sensation to the head and face. Clinical trials have found that acupuncture is at least as effective as pr...ophylactic drug therapy for the prevention of migraine headaches, and is safe, long-lasting and cost-effective. Acupuncture reduces the frequency of headaches and is well tolerated. At Gathered Roots, we recommend weekly acupuncture for up to 10-12 sessions as one course of treatment for the prevention of migraine headaches. To learn more about how acupuncture can help you with migraine headaches, see the latest blog on our website bit.ly/3nqir0b

Does acupuncture hurt? This is the first question that comes to mind when you talk about acupuncture and needles. Fortunately, the answer is NO, but according to the philosophy of Chinese medicine, for acupuncture to be effective there has to be some needling sensation when the needles are inserted. This sensation is called De-qi, which means the arrival of the qi or energy and refers to the reaction of meridional qi after the needle is inserted into the point. ... When the qi arrives, the practitioner may feel a kind of sinking or tight sensation under the needle, and the patient may have a sensation of soreness, numbness, heaviness, or distension around the point, or even a sensation travelling in a certain direction. If the qi doesn’t arrive, there is no treatment and no hope in improving the disease with acupuncture, so other therapeutic methods should be considered. When you try acupuncture at Gathered Roots, if you experience any pain or discomfort, please let us know. We will adjust the needle or even take it out. However, when you relax, the qi moves freely in your body and allows healing to happen.

Acupuncture is becoming an increasingly popular treatment tool in private clinics and hospitals for pregnancy-related conditions. It is an ideal form of treatment as it offers women drug-free relief for a multitude of problems that can arise during pregnancy and childbirth. Prebirth acupuncture refers to a series of treatments in the final weeks of pregnancy to prepare the body for childbirth. It consists of a combination of preselected acupuncture points that have been noted... to have a beneficial effect on birth. Prebirth acupuncture can enhance the prospect of efficient labour, and teaching the woman’s partner or support people about acupressure can make a great difference to the level of pain experienced during labour. Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a complicated disorder characterized by extreme fatigue that lasts for at least six months and that cannot be fully explained by an underlying medical condition. The fatigue worsens with physical or mental activity and does not improve with rest. While there is no cure for CFS, symptoms can be treated by medications or alternative therapies such as acupuncture. Stimulation of certain acupuncture points has been shown to affect areas of the b...rain that are known to reduce sensitivity to pain and stress, as well as promoting relaxation and deactivating the 'analytical' brain, which is responsible for insomnia. At Gathered Roots, we provide an affordable, safe and effective treatment to address your needs. Fibromyalgia is a condition that causes pain all over the body, sleep problems, fatigue, and often emotional and mental distress. People with fibromyalgia may be more sensitive to pain than others. The cause of fibromyalgia is not known, but it can be effectively treated and managed. Generally, fibromyalgia should be treated by a team of health care professionals with a combination of treatments, including medication and natural treatments. Acupuncture is fantastic to relieve... pain, move blood, calm the mind for those with anxiety and to promote better sleep. Acupuncture is believed to correct neuroendocrine dysfunctions by stimulating endorphins to reduce pain, improve mood, and increase the patient’s sense of well-being. At Gathered Roots, we provide a safe, natural, and effective way to address the symptoms of fibromyalgia. For more information, see the most recent blog on our website bit.ly/3iJpJKc

These tiny needles (press tacks) help extend the effectiveness of acupuncture by remaining in your skin after the treatment. Press tacks are often used for acupuncture on the external ear or other parts of the body. They can help you with pain, muscle soreness, and shoulder stiffness, especially in athletes, morning sickness in pregnancy, emotional dysregulation, and much more.

Facial rejuvenation acupuncture, also known as cosmetic acupuncture, is anti-ageing, relaxes the muscles of the face, and boosts collagen to reduce wrinkles. It also increases circulation and boosts elastin to firm and tone the face, and promotes detoxification to leave a clearer, more even complexion. The focus is to maintain the long-term health of the skin and body. During treatment, tiny and painless needles are inserted on the face. This causes your body to go into repai...r mode, stimulating the lymphatic and circulatory systems, which work together to deliver nutrients and oxygen to skin cells. At Gathered Roots, we offer facial rejuvenation acupuncture combined with 10 min Gua sha (Chinese massage) on the face. Book your appointment on our website today to unlock the healing powers of traditional treatment For more information, please see our blog on facial rejuvenation acupuncture bit.ly/2Ym4ypq
