This year is a bigger push for us into market garden, with the goal to fill the farm store with fresh veggies this summer. While I've been in the garden in one way or another for my entire life, as a child "apprentice", an amateur, and this time as a job... I have come to learn it's something I'm still not great at. Almost two decades of growing things is still really just growing something a handful of times, but it does get a little better with each run. It takes 90 degrees C to release the lanolin from wool. It's a strangely difficult temperature to hit at quantity. One of the first steps in our wool processing journey every year is our month long wash season. Long days starting in the early morning of wood fire building and heating water to juussst the right temperature. We do just a few pounds at a time to closely monitor this delicate material. We work every year on-farm to prefect and refine our process to get the wool just right for the mill. Our harvest this year will be our largest ever and so we are starting early. It's about to get cold! We are keeping the farm store open for one more weekend before we lock it up to prepare for winter. Come by for your last chance this season to pickup some eggs, honey, frozen homestead pork, wool, and our hand made goods. We will still be taking deposits for our fresh whole chickens for pickup in early November. See you this weekend! The store will be open Sat and Sun 10am-4pm. After that, it's 'see you next season'
