There are few things more fearsome than a November storm on the Great Lakes. The most famous of these would be the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald which sunk in in a gale on Lake Superior in November of 1975, and was immortalized in song by Gordon Lightfoot. Georgian Bay is littered with the wreckages of ships that didn't survive the treacherous waters of the lakes. One of the best known is the Paddle Steamer Waubuno which went down in a storm on November 18, 1879, just south of Par...ry Sound, on what is now known as Wreck Island, after having set off from Collingwood with passengers and supplies. Today, the many shipwrecks are a popular destination for boaters and scuba divers. Newsletter subscribers will be receiving an email today with an exclusive 20% off discount for Waubuno Gale yarn this week. #gbfibreco #makersnorth #ourcrater #sudbury #georgianbay #november #inspiration #grey #gale #storms

Please support the The Royal Canadian Legion - National Headquarters this Remembrance Day. $1 of every skein of red yarn will be donated. In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky ... The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.

This week in Canada will be unlike any before. There will be no gathering at cenotaphs. Even the weather has missed the solemnity that normally occurs this time of year. We aren't carrying change in our pockets to toss in the Legion donation box at the grocery store. Instead, make an online donation and make yourself a poppy from your yarn stash instead.
