Gian-Carlo believes that empowered communities drive a city to achieve success. He is passionate about planning as a path to an inclusive and equitable city. Sign up for our Town Hall on Monday night and hear, first-hand, about why the Guidebook is key to building a better future together: https://bit.ly/3e9kZxT
The Bow and Elbow Rivers, as they exist today, date from the Holocene period ten thousand years ago. The surviving remnants of these glaciers in the Rocky Mountains constitute their headwaters! We are so lucky to have an incredible natural resource as part of our city’s recreation. Drift boats, canoes, kayaks, or rafts are all welcome, and our community is full of enthusiastic experts who can help you get on board. There has been an ongoing conversation amongst Calgarians for quite some time now about getting a little bit more European and civilized about our approach to consumption of alcohol in our park spaces, said Carra, whose east-central Ward 9 reaches from the inner city to Calgary’s eastern boundary." https://calgaryherald.com//calgary-councillor-wants-to-rev #GreatNeighbourhoods #yyc #yyccc #yycbeer

Calgary has over 60 adopted rinks and hundreds of volunteers involved in the Adopt-A-Rink program. It gives people the opportunity to get together with friends and neighbours to help keep local skating rinks flooded, maintained, and looking clean. In addition to these locations, many of our community associations help keep up rinks across the city! Have we missed any? Check out the Ward 9 Recreation map and #PutAPinInIt! https://www.gccarra.ca/w9-recreation #GreatNeighbourhoods #yyc #yycplay #yycskate #yycca
This pump track is a very special community-led project by the folks in Fairview Community! Check out their #WheresFairview? We used (the city’s) state of emergency to write the rules for our people to do the enforcement that the province had set, Carra said. In the absence of a provincial state of emergency that specifically grants the city enforcement powers, we’re sitting around like everyone else. #yyc #yyccc #yycca #COVID19AB

AHS said they would commit to a data conversation. Coun. Gian Carlo Carra asked why it didn’t come today. Why are we not prepared with the full data set, not just a data set cherry picked from a certain period of time after there was a massive increase in response times, he asked.... . . . . . https://livewirecalgary.com//show-me-the-data-city-pushes/ #yyc #yyccc #abpoli #abhealth #greatneighbourhoods #Ward9yyc

The Ward 8 councillor’s proposal, which he said is backed by Mayor Naheed Nenshi, Coun. Gian-Carlo Carra and Coun. George Chahal, comes after protests against police brutality across North America and calls to defund police services, including in Calgary. Advocates of defunding say the money should instead go toward mental health services, housing, transit and other community supports. The motion also asks for the city to develop a community safety investment framework in collaboration with CPS, supported by the reallocated funds. According to the motion, the framework would cover crisis services for Calgarians and their families, outreach services, the emergency response system and any gaps in racially and culturally appropriate services. https://calgaryherald.com//councillor-asks-to-consider-rea
Councillor Carra is currently participating in the Beard-O Challenge to raise funds for the Jack Long Foundation. These funds are being collected to build safe, affordable housing for seniors who wish to age in place. While Halloween won’t be full of the usual frights this year, our team has suffered long enough: If we don’t meet our goal of fundraising $2000 for Elder House before the end of the month, GC won’t shave his beard. ... He might still win a prize, but we all lose. Help us cover the final stretch before the fundraiser ends (11:59, October 31) by donating to Team Ward 9’s campaign! The Jack Long Foundation is hoping to raise a total of $20,000 and every little bit counts! If you're unable to donate, please share with folks in your network and get us over the finish line! Ps. Don't get too close to him during a full moon. He's been a bit moody these days. See more
There is nothing more terrifying about Halloween than having this go on past Oct 31. Help us get to our goal before the end of the month so GC can shave his beard and we can all live happily ever after! (We're begging you!!!) We've only got $425 until the finish line and our team will have raised $2000 in support of the Jack Long Foundation! ...
