#GetReal about how you feel Emotional literacy is the ability to recognize how we feel, understand our feelings, label them and express them. When we are emotionally literate, we are better able to manage our emotions, or regulate them.... Although we feel our emotions in the body and may recognize they are there, sometimes our emotions can be hard to put into words. An event can trigger emotions very quickly, automatically, and even unconsciously. Emotional events can trigger changes in our facial expressions, muscle tone, and voice tone, in our autonomic nervous system that regulates our heart and respiratory rate, digestion, perspiration, and in our endocrine system, which involves our hormones. This week is CMHA National / ACSM National Mental Health Week! This year the theme is understanding our emotions. Check back every day this week for more information! Recognizing, labelling and accepting our feelings are all part of protecting and promoting good mental health for everyone.... Naming, expressing and dealing with our emotionseven when they’re uncomfortablecan make us feel better. Naming or labelling our emotions can help us understand and process them. It can even make us feel better. However, if your emotions are overwhelming, persistent and/or are interfering with your daily life, it is important to seek mental health supports. At our last meeting, member Jill Beland, shared this heartwarming letter from Joan Beland to the Grande Cache Healthier Together team. We were very touched with Joan's kind words and are sorry we weren't able to get the letter sooner. Thank you, Joan, and everyone else for your support of our quarterly newsletter, Community Connections. We're thrilled to hear it's been enjoyed by people in Grande Cache and we hope to continue providing useful information about the community and living a healthy lifestyle. If you, like Joan, have been wondering who exactly we are, stay tuned for our upcoming Winter 2020 issue!

NON-TRICKY TIPS FOR A SPOOKY SAFE HALLOWEEN Don't trick-or-treat, hand out treats, or go to a party if you have even mild symptoms, or you're in isolation/quarantine Choose costumes that allow your child to wear a non-medical mask If you can, knock instead of pushing doorbells, or keep 2 metres from the door or porch and call trick or treat. Make sure the person calling is wearing a mask. Keep a healthy distance from trick-or-treaters. If possible, hand out candy ...from the driveway, open garage, or lawn instead of your front door. You can print special Halloween posters to hang in your window or place on your door. They'll let trick-or-treaters know if you’re open for boo-ness and handing out candy this year. Get them and see more tips at alberta.ca/halloween
