Marketing and promotional slogans say "Happy Halloween." Never understood that messaging. Maybe it applies to happy kids when they get free candy. The TRICK would be to get someone to magically rid us of this pandemic and the TREAT would be to return to our normal way of life with rewards for what we've gone through. So while we are entertained by the fun and fear of this occasion, be sure to cozy up before nightfall. www.gcommunications.net #halloween #corporatecommunications #trickortreat

THE CALM AFTER THE STORM: As an entrepreneur, I know about weathering storms and droughts. In the worst of times, it can make any business owner want to curl up and hide or escape into a good book...until something triggers an awakening. Opportunities come in waves. We often hear about the "the calm BEFORE the storm." But rarely do we appreciate the calm after storm when small businesses have fought to survive two lockdowns and closures in the wake of an unforgiving pandemic.... Reopening any small business comes with fear, trepidation and even hope. It is a phase of calm many consumers and small businesses are facing...hoping for someone to walk into their storefront or call for a service. So on this beautiful Fall Sunday....look to the week ahead and make a plan to support just one small business. It'll be a warm welcome into their calm. #smallbusiness #businesscoach #calm #supportsmallbusiness #gcommunicationsTO

COMMUNICATION DURING SILENT TIMES: I was lost for words recently. It happened so abruptly and severely. I lost my dear mum on Thanksgiving weekend. So it's been tough to find the words to express the concoction of pain, emptiness, anger and deep sadness I was feeling. Couldn’t write it down. But instead I sought the comfort of friends and I returned to work with a bizarre and renewed work ethic and stamina. It was confusing but it was like a rebirth. I look at small business...es today and notice how they too have gone silent and are struggling to make ends meet in the wake of this pandemic. I see how they’ve set out on new courses and made the smallest life altering decisions that would affect their livelihood in a big way. It has been a privilege to help entrepreneurs navigate the storm, implement cost-efficient strategies and help them realize a new way of doing an old business or create a new beginning altogether. When we stop to think how much disconnect there is these days, how many small shops are deserted and how many entrepreneurs and shopkeepers also have no words during this difficult time, we can fully appreciate that silence is not golden. It can be a killer. Communication through words and action is key for all consumers to stay engaged and hopeful. Support local and small businesses. Help them populate their stores. Buy their goods and services. And strike up a conversation with them. They need the interaction, the support and the encouragement to wake up the next morning and do it all over again... in hopes of decent earnings. #pandemicpositivity #communicationsstrategies #businesscoaching

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! As we celebrate all the vibrant colours of Fall, can't help but appreciate Green, the colour of nature and symbolizing growth, harmony, freshness and safety. As we all gather for Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends, gratefulness in 2020 will take on a whole new meaning for so many. Professionally, I am grateful for the opportunity to help business leaders stay relevant and successful in the marketplace. By pivoting to virtual communic...ations, we've hit the refresh button and created a sense of newness and excitement for many, leaders, products and services. Through clear, concise and clever communications strategies, we've tapped into effectively harmonizing consumers while celebrating growth, even in the wake of a pandemic. Canadian entrepreneurs are survivors and go-getters. That makes communities across this country proud. It's tempting to invade a small corner of the house by yourself, have a party for one and simply just breathe, right? Nothing like an invisible wall to embrace you in some precious time to think and get creative. After all, we've spent 7 months disconnecting and staying clear of people, and not communicating in traditional ways. And now a second wave? We can handle it. We've got the rules, the laws, the protocol, the guidelines, the information, the naysayers, the alarmists, ...the pessimists, the gurus and the template to help cope. We've created that template ourselves. And it's been working for so many of us. So we should be proud of that, and our innovative ways of conducting business, raising our children and even finding time for ourselves. At least until we need to tweak it all again. So while we adjust to this new way of life, have we really mastered our communications in personal and professional settings. It's easy to get caught up in all things online. But I encourage leaders daily to create new ways of communicating and getting the same, if not better, results than before. Some are doing the parking lot conversations, car-to-car over coffee. Others are doing audio recordings on text. We miss the face-to-face and the visual cues. I get it. On-screen time can be impersonal, hard on the eyes and so consuming with so much information coming at us all the time. But I'm seeing leaders taking creative steps to rise above the setbacks and roadblocks to achieving success, simply by implementing good verbal and non-verbal communications. Clear, concise and clever messaging is needed now more than ever before. We can help with your corporate or social media messaging or leadership coaching before a big presentation. Our new website is coming soon!

I usually showcase and celebrate my son’s accomplishments on social media. A proud mum I am. But every now and then, I work on a project that makes me so proud to be a journalist and a marketer. When my dear client, Jerry Hammond, President & CEO of Hammond International Properties, called me in early spring at the height of the pandemic to write his first ever luxury report, I hesitated. I didn’t think it was a good time to do a project like that, especially when the world w...as on lockdown and everyone was feeling miserable. But after careful thought, and in true positive fashion, I embarked on writing THE HAMMOND LUXURY REPORT www.hammondinternationalproperties.com/magazine Pay special attention to Page 25: Team Hammond: Changemakers in Real Estate, an article I was ecstatic to pen in addition to writing the rest of the content. It was a delightful venture into Jerry’s tightly-run real estate office and a peek into the lives of some of the most accomplished real estate agents in the industry. The photos are by talented photographer, Tyler McKeag, and the award-winning advertising agency, Brand Factory, created the polished design and execution. It was a team effort that culminated into an exquisite look book to impress, attract and inform the most enquiring minds in luxury real estate today. I feel so shi-shi.

Brilliant. Brave. Influential. Compassionate. The Honourable Justice RBG. Women all over the world have learned from her life story, her devotion to the law, her courage and her word of wisdom that started a movement to empower women, and men, to embrace the power of change and work together as a united force. Canadian women, leaders and entrepreneurs mourn the loss of a trendsetter and a changemaker. RIP RBG. #ripowerrbg #rolemodel #equality #equalityforwomen #leadership #powerfulwomen

TIP #9: Every relationship needs some nurturing. Even the one we have with our work. How many of us stare at a blank screen and think: "I don't enjoy this any more." Sometimes it's not the work. It's our mindset. Especially in the wake of a pandemic, as entrepreneurs we must be willing to: * reach beyond our potential * change just one thing * add just one element * connect just one new piece to our way of earning a living. ... Cultivate it daily....and fall in love with your work again. #leadershipcoaching #communicationsstrategist #GCommunications #entrepreneurship #newbusiness www.gcommunications.net

Remember cursive writing? When was the last time you handwrote a note? It's a forgotten art. We're so driven by texting and email communications these days. In business, it's quick and gets results asap. But intention, feelings and tone can get lost in online communique. Why not do something different? A handwritten note, with the right message, and sent to a colleague or a client can evoke emotions that open up amazing possibilities. It's old school. But being different is a good thing. #communicationstrategy #communicationskillstraining #communicationskills #leadershipdevelopment #leadershipskills #leadershipcoaching www.gcommunications.net

It's Sunday night and if you're like me, I always close out the weekend by taking stock of all the experiences that will shape the week ahead. Spending time with family strengthens the balance with my team. Taking photos of fun and laughter lightens the mood on Mondays. And discovering the many ways people, shops and activities inspires me to raise the bar. It's a good time for all businesses to do just one thing to be more, offer more and enjoy more. Being simply outstanding to your customers creates the most rewarding success. #communicationskillstraining #communications #businesscoaching #torontobusinessowners #torontobusinesswoman #GCommunications007 #dosomethingdifferent #simplepleasures

Rainy days are great for napping and lazing. But entrepreneurial minds are always active. So when a pandemic forces business ideas and initiatives to be benched, it's the entrepreneurial mind that can be inspired to take things to the next level. The key is to ensure that ONE idea is based on a client need--something they're attracted to because it's: * progressive * innovative * uniquely communicated... #communicationsstrategist #businesscoach #contentcreation
