Look who's in a magazine again! Seriously. Who OK's the pictures at Avenue Magazine? This may seriously affect their readership. But really, I'm super glad to have been part of @vignettesyeg again. Such a great opportunity to collaborate with the ridiculously talented artists and designers in Edmonton. And thanks to the people that got drunk and voted me as top craftsman. You're all my best friends.

Ok. A couple more pics of the doors. They look great in the daytime too without all the drama from the lights. I was questioning whether or not sorting through the wood and selecting for colour variance was worth the time it took, but I love hiw the colour changes as the size of the slats change, now that they're up. I just gotta learn to calm all the little voices in my head...

Well the doors are in and I'm ecstatic! These guys are my interpretation of solid wood insulated doors. They have a quarter sawn white oak stave core with 1 1/2" Roxul insulation, weather shield on the outside, vapour barrier on the inside, and foam gasket between every t&g joint. They are skinned with 3/4" African Mahogany and finished lots of oil based polyurethane. I had this idea, when I started taking woodworking seriously, that I wanted to keep trying new things, keep e...xperimenting, keeping pushing myself to try new stuff. And lots of times i end up scaring myself to the point of being terrified to complete a project because it might fail. I mean, I've never built this kind of door before. Why would I think i sGould even try?? But I've found that with diligent research, a good set of problem solving skills, a hard tendency toward persnickety-ness, and a wee bit of courage, I can do more than I expected. I'm learning new stuff every day, and I love it. It does terrify me sometimes. But the reward afterward is completely worth it. See more

Well, the install is going well! It's not going quickly, but it's going well. There is lots of finicky stuff to deal with when installing shiny, new, solid wood, custom, insulated, 3" thick European style doors () in an older house. But a lot of the problems I tried to address during the build, seem to have been taken care of, so that's satisfying. They are dead straight, swing well and feel substantial as all hell. And they they look DAMNED AMAZING! I'm excited for tomorrow and having the big doors all finished up.
