Gemmell Berry Farm 19.12.2020

Most berries are still in the middle of the spectrum. A few have jumped up to Red and then skipped down to Blue. It doesn't seem orderly but one can't argue with the results. A little more sunshine and then it will be time to harvest!

Sunshine, showers, and blossoms! Flowers are the hope of fruit to come. The Sun raking through a field of flowers and Spring showers provides a backdrop video for a song. Experts suggest a blueberry field should host four to eight bees per bush during the peak pollination period. The Old Apiarist has outdone himself!

I love hearing a vibrating proboscis! It's the sound of pollination. Most bee visits are about nectar collection but sometimes the sonicating Bombus can be heard coaxing pollen from the flowers by vibrating her proboscis inside the corolla. Turn the sound up and listen for the high pitch bzzz zzz zzz.

Calypte 'anna' employs his plumage semaphore. Ornithologists have claimed that with each turn of his head he's signalling to the females of the species. However, since learning that Hummingbirds eat insect pests in the blueberry field I'll consider the iridescent show to be flags of war! Huzzah Hummingbirds!
