With support from the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre Recreation Energy Conservation (REC) program, we have upgraded LED light installations within the Genesis Place Field House, gymnasium, running track, Twin Arenas, fitness studios, along the main hallways and outdoors. The project included more than 500 fixture replacements and is projected to save the City $27,000 annually.

We are sad to announce that our spring programming (May/June) is cancelled as directed by the Province on April 29, 2021. We are currently working to connect with our swim registrants, facility rental groups and personal training clients who are impacted by this closure. What’s open/what’s next? Happy Earth Day! Did you know? There are currently 3,880 solar modules on the roof of Genesis Place and 240 solar modules on top of a double wing carport in our parking lot. The solar system at Genesis Place provides a source of renewable energy, while reducing overall electricity costs of Genesis Place by up to $80,000 annually. The modules power the facility’s scoreboard, heat the pool for swim meets and keep the lights on for classes all while reducing emissions by over 1,000 tonnes. Hey. Hi there. Hello. We want to do a quick update regarding our upcoming swimming lessons and mask protocol. Working with our Public Health Officer, it has been determined that masks must be worn at all times during the lesson by both our swim instructors and the parent/guardian of the child in the lesson. Children will remove their masks once the lesson begins. ... We know that there are many different thoughts and opinions regarding masks. We kindly ask that you continue to be respectful to our staff who are following AHS protocol so that we may offer our swim programs and get kids back in the pool. Well... another day, another update. Let's start by saying the Genesis Place team is so very grateful to have your ongoing support during these challenging times as we continue to adjust. Starting Dec. 13, 2020 our doors will sadly be closed to the public for a minimum of four weeks as per the mandated orders from the Province of Alberta to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Below is the condensed version of what you can expect, but please visit www.airdrie.ca/GPclosure f...or more details. All passes will be placed ‘on hold’ starting the evening of Dec. 12, 2020. Any unused/prepaid time will be issued back onto your Genesis Place account for use when the facility reopens. For example: If your payment came out on Dec. 8, you would be issued a prorated credit for the prepaid days of Dec. 13, to Jan. 7, 2021. We do not yet have a program registration date set for the new year. We have received a high number of phone calls and emails since yesterday’s announcement and we ask, once again, for your patience as we work through these messages as our response time may be longer than usual. With team sports on hold until Nov. 27 we have opened up a few additional (temporary) public and parent & tot skate times. Thank you for your patience as we gathered more information from AHS regarding our programming. AHS has confirmed that all group programming (swimming lessons, registered kids, youth and adult programs) is suspended (Nov. 14 - Nov. 27 inclusive. What we CANNOT offer (updated Nov. 13, 2020) Swimming lessons: Any cancelled classes will be credited back to your account and further updates will be sent out once decisions have been made on how we might be able to proceed with... the remainder of the fall session. Registered children and youth programming: Any cancelled classes will be credited back to your account and further updates will be sent out once decisions have been made on how we might be able to proceed with the remainder of the fall session. Drop-in children’s programming Drop-in Basketball. As this is a high contact sport it is recommended that this not be offered during this time. What we CAN offer (updated Nov. 13, 2020) We will continue to run drop-in pickleball and badminton with modifications. Participation may take place in these activities with a maximum of 4 people from your own family unit or household cohort. (This requires a reservation and times will be available to book online shortly). We are also working on offering family open gym time where you may bring your own equipment to use. More information on this will come next week. As mentioned above, any cancelled classes will appear as a credit to your account in the coming days. We appreciate your patience as we work through processing these items and we will work to get this complete as quickly as possible. 2020 has been a very challenging year full of uncertainty. Like many of you, here at GP we continue to face (and adjust) to things that are out of our control. Let us all encourage one another to not dwell on what's going wrong, but to look and be grateful for the things that are going right.

All group fitness and sport activities are temporarily suspended starting tomorrow (Nov. 13). We are communicating what we know today and what still requires clarity from AHS. We CANNOT offer the following:... Group exercise/fitness classes ALL team sport activities (we encourage individuals to check with their sport organizations on the status of their sport as many of the team sports in our facility are rentals and not run by Genesis Place). We CAN continue to offer: Drop-in lane swimming and public swim (must register through www.myairdrie.ca) Public skating (must register through www.myairdrie.ca) Drop-in use of our Fitness Centre (no reservation required) Personal Training Kids Connection Preschool We are working on getting further clarification from AHS regarding the following activities. We hope to have more information within the next 24 hours. The following activities will be suspended until we are certain we may continue to run them while following protocol. Drop-in gym/field sports (pickleball, badminton, basketball etc.). Swimming lessons and aquatic leadership courses Registered programming where 6 ft. of distance can be maintained at all time and cohorts are not required (outside of group fitness). We recognize that these ongoing changes impact you directly and we are working hard to ensure that your well-being remains a top priority while complying with AHS protocol.
