CRANIAL SUTURES ~~ The bones of the fetal head are soft and flexible with spaces between the plates called Cranial Sutures. Beautifully designed by Nature, the... spaces between these bones allow them to move closer together and can also overlap to help your baby’s head mould and fit through your pelvis. So when you hear ‘baby’s got a big head’ as you approach your due date remember this .... your baby’s head is not a solid grapefruit, it’s more like a moldable egg. xP ~~~~~~~ also more interesting info via @the_modern_midwife below H O W clever are our bodies and our babies? Did you know that your baby’s head changes shape to fit through your pelvis? It’s such a clever dance that happens between mum and baby during birth. We are born with around 300 bones and over time these fuse so we have 206 by the time we reach adulthood. During labour it’s good to try and remain mobile, even if you have an epidural you don’t have to stay in the same position. For example you can lay on your side or you can ask for the bed to be manoeuvred to support you to be more upright. Mamas your bodies are amazing and so are your babies. You got this! photo x @jessica_vi_photography Via @umamother
