PERSONALIZED COLOUR PHOTO EDITIONS only available at: www.geoffreyhaddadbooks.com. Updated Photograph (framed & 'colourized') showing a Panoramic view of the pinnacle of the Blue Mountains, The Peak at elevation 7402 ft. circa 1971- Courtesy of Roger HM Bates, one of the five Jamaica College schoolboys who survived a near fatal mishap sparking one of the most extensive Air and Land, Search and Rescue Mission in recent memory on the island- December 16th - December 24th, 196...7. The other boys were, Geoffrey (GB) Haddad, Gordon Cooper, George Hussey and Cecil ward. L-R: a) original concrete block structure which contained metal bunk beds and mattresses b) ancillary smaller wooden structure ( to accommodate additional hikers also with metal frame beds and mattresses) supported on concrete footings and c) two wooden toilet structures (Note: The mattresses (coir) were used to start fires but the metal frames remained in existence and were sturdy to support a sleeping bag. Next came the destruction of the wooden structure which was used as firewood on chilly nights when temperatures would effectively approach 32 Deg F. Mossman's Peak at elevation 6912 ft. appears in the background. In addition to the buildings in the photo there were two garbage pits and a shed for the mules.* There was another building (not shown in any photos) which housed the mules* and which was for the caretakers for the area. Another correction : the smaller building was initially built to house the caretakers. See more
