Wholesome Family Health Tip - Iron - https://mailchi.mp/ad5ab07/wholesome-family-health-tip-iron
No one gets very thrilled about tofu stir fry night at my house. Maybe because I made tofu the same way for the last 15 years?? So recently I decided to mix things up. I breaded the tofu in panko bread crumbs and wouldn't you know it, the boring ol' stir fry felt a little more exciting. Here's how:... 1. Cut the extra firm tofu into slices about 1/4 inch thick 2. Coat in flour then dip into egg then coat in a mix of panko bread crumbs, salt and pepper 3. Bake on parchment at 400 for 8 min then flip and let them go for another 8 min or so - until they look done Enjoy!
Literally the best cup of tea I have had in a long time. In the sun. Beside a river. BY MYSELF. What did you do this weekend to fill your bucket?
For those who have not met me yet, I wanted to say hello! I am Dr. Jo. Almost fifteen years ago I started my Naturopathic practice, called George Street Naturopathic Medicine, in Waterloo Ontario. I am passionate about wholesome family health. I love working with people of all ages and stages of family life. I am a very good listener, and I am always looking for clues to help find the ROOT CAUSE of a person's health issue. Naturopathic care is very individualized, b...ecause each patient is so unique. Sometimes I will use acupuncture, or dietary changes, or botanical medicines to get people feeling better. Often I will run blood tests to check for deficiencies of key nutrients such as vitamin D, vitamin B12, or iron. My goal is to help you and your family reach your health goals. Join me on the journey to wholesome family health!
Soup's On! This week I made veggie stock, inspired by a recipe in one of my fave cookbooks @rebarmodernfood. Basically I threw a bunch of veggies and herbs in a pot and simmered them for a couple of hours. Then I strained out the veg and voila! I had delicious veggie stock for making soups. Sounds fancy, making homemade stock. But really it is super easy!... Now to figure out what kind of soup to make... What's your favourite? Post in comments to give us all some inspiration! Happy Wednesday! xo Dr. Jo
Wholesome Family Health Tip - take care of your gut! - https://mailchi.mp//wholesome-family-health-tip-take-care-
Solid lotion bars! It was our first time making these, and they turned out great! Plus they make the house smell sooooo good. Ingredients:... 1 cup beeswax pellets/shavings 1 cup coconut oil 1 cup shea butter 1 tsp vitamin E oil Melt together slowly in a double boiler (pot inside a pot, ya know?) Once it is a liquid, add 30-40 drops of your fave essential oil. We did 1 batch with lavendar and 1 batch with peppermint. Pour the liquid into silicon molds (you can get these at Michael's or if you are lucky like me, you might find one for super cheap at Value Village!!) and LET THEM SIT UNTOUCHED. As the liquid turns to solid, they go from yellow to white-ish. When they were halfway hardened, we sprinkled some dried flowers on top. After 2 hours you can pop them out of the molds! Voila! It is nourishing lotion for your skin, in the form of a solid bar! Post in the comments if you have any questions. What are you crafting up these days? Have a lovely Monday xo
On this very day fifteen years ago, I became a mother. Forever, my life was changed. I will never forget the joy and love I experienced when I held that baby for the first time. He was born at home, with the love and support of our midwives and our mothers. It was truly the best day of my life. I will also never forget how insecure and unsure I felt in those first weeks. What did I know about caring for a baby?? As a brand new mom, I looked to the "experts". I gathered ...books - books about sleeping, books about parenting, books about how to raise a good kid. All written by strangers who didn't know me, didn't know my baby, but SURELY they must have the answers. On my final post-birth midwifery appointment, I came with an armload of books and a list of questions for my midwife. She said to me, "Let me give you one very important piece of advice. Throw all the books away. You don't need them. You have all the answers already, in here" and she leaned forward and touched my chest, over top of my . It was the greatest gift she could have given me. To this day, I continue to navigate parenthood by listening to my gut and following my heart. To the new parents out there, trust me when I tell you that YOU are the expert in your own child. You have all the answers already. You just need to listen to your heart.
Halloween 2020. It was different, that’s for sure. But this whole year has been full of different, hasn’t it? In our neighbourhood, the creativity was out in full force. It filled me with so much happiness, and I’m not even a Halloween person!!! Stupid Covid-19, you may have cancelled summer camp and prevented our epic African adventure, but you didn’t suck the fun out of Halloween #maryallenneighbourhood #halloweenliveson #waterloo #waterlooregion #dawnkeballs #upyourscovid #seymourbutz
