Over 300 youth recently completed a first of its’ kind rural youth mental health survey with the Rural Ottawa Youth Mental Health Collective group. The survey had incredible input with 60 per cent participation from Osgoode Ward alone. I was happy to hear the results and have a gauge on how our youth are coping through the current pandemic. As well, the first and newest addition to the Osgoode Youth Centre was a Mental Health Counselor funded by NROCRC. Youth can make ap...pointments by phone at: 343-803-3482 or by email: [email protected]. You can also visit www.o-ya.ca for details Thank you Nicole McKerracher for sharing this vital feedback on our youth with MP Pierre Poilievre, MPP Goldie Ghamari and myself. You can follow this group along with the following social media platforms: Rural Ottawa Youth Mental Health Collective on Instagram as well as Facebook. See more

The Ontario Government, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health and other health experts, is extending measures to keep students and education staff safe. This means extending teacher led online learning until January 25, 2021 for elementary school students. These measures are being taken to help ensure that all Ontarians stay at home as much as possible to minimize transmission of the virus and prevent hospitals from becoming overwhelmed.... To support families during this extended school closure, child care centres, and home-based child care services will remain open. Ontario is also expanding eligibility for the Ministry of Education's targeted emergency child care program for a broader number of frontline health and safety workers. In order to continue to support remote learning, the ministry has recommended that a portion of the second half of federal funding, an additional $80 million investment, will be provided for additional technological devices, such as laptops and tablets, to support school boards in procuring about 160,000 additional devices province-wide. Financial support is also available for families during this temporary remote learning period through the Support for Learners program. Starting on January 11, 2021, an expanded Support for Learners program is providing $200 for each child or youth up to Grade 12 and $250 for each child or youth up to age 21 with special needs. Applications will be open until February 8, 2021. For more information, please click here: https://news.ontario.ca//ontario-extends-teacher-led-onlin

As you are aware, large crowds have been observed at outdoor skating rinks, tobogganing hills and skiing trailheads, raising concern about public health and safety. This morning, Dr. Etches has officially issued a Class Order under Section 22 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act to all owners and operators of outdoor recreational amenities and to all persons accessing these amenities. The Order includes requirements relating to:... A capacity limit of 25 persons on skating rinks and, for all other outdoor recreational amenities, at any areas where the public congregate, such as at the top of tobogganing hills, trail heads and access points; The requirement to maintain physical distancing of at least two (2) metres from persons outside one’s own household when using these amenities; Mandatory mask signage in locations where the public access the outdoor recreational amenities prior to actively participating in a recreational activity or when observing others participate in recreational activities; The prohibition of sports and activities that are likely to result in individuals coming within two (2) metres of each other; and The posting of signage, in conspicuous places, explaining the requirements of the Class Order. The order takes effect on Friday, January 8th at 5:00am. Further details regarding the order can be found at: https://www.ottawapublichealth.ca//Class-S22-Order-Outdoor

Reminder how important it is to keep the catch basin clean. The city is asking residents to clear their local catch basin of leaves and debris. A clear catch basin allows water to drain off the road, making it safer for resident travel. Small steps taken now to keep catch basins clear will help prevent water pooling on our roads.

Got my taste buds all in a tizzy with the brand-new A & W finally opened in The Shoppes of Greely plaza! Dropping in for a short visit, I was delighted to present franchise owner and operator Reddy with a signed certificate from Mayor Watson and myself welcoming him to Greely. He was super pleased to open the doors to customers for take out or drive thru today and hopes the day for eating inside will not be too far off. #supportlocal #supportsmallbusiness A&W Canada
