Hi folks hard to believe but Hockey prep will soon be upon us. I’m looking for a few more parents from the Georgetown area to help with a Community Calendars r...oute, it’s really simple fundraiser for Minor Hockey so if you can please let me know. Basically a route has about 15-20 houses on it(usually the same street) and these ppl order their calendar annually, you just have to go collect the money, make any changes (anniversaries, birthdays, memorials) and have them sign their info sheet. We have some really great volunteers that do this for us year after year and their kids are no longer actually in Minor Hockey so I’m sure they would appreciate if we could find some new volunteers to take this on. Reminder everyone. The last registration day for baseball and softball is today from 9-12 in Cardigan at the village office. It is VERY important to register o...n the official registration days as this allows us to know the number of team and players and also allows us to draft a schedule for the summer. We realize everyone is busy but if you are planning on playing baseball or softball this season in Cardigan please make your way to the registration day. ** note ** there will be a specific T-ball registration day at the field on the first day of T-ball around the middle on June.

Maroon Pig-Fundraising Dinner was awesome. Thanks to our guests and friends who brought it all together- for a good cause. With your help we are able to donate ...$1035. to improve the sports infrastructure at the back of Georgetown Elementary School. This is a first step on a long term project to improve the conditions where our children go to school. Way to go Georgetown and a special thanks- to our supportive friends: Melvin Ford, Felicia Mcleod, Kerri O'Brien, Carol-Ann Mcleod for helping prepare the food and getting it there hot. To Barry O'Brien for sharing his talented musicianship with our diners. And finally to everyone who donated food and dishes: Gordie Stewart, Jeff Hebert, John Walsh Jr, Wayne Chaisson, and the Georgetown Inn. Your generosity is appreciated. A community working together can do wonderful things. Look for further FUNdraising adventures to come. See more

FROM A HOCKEY PARENT: One of my friends asked "Why do you pay so much money and spend so much time running around for your son to play hockey ?" Well I have a confession to make: I don't pay for my son's hockey. Or his skates, pads, helmet, and uniform. Or his ice time, clinics and camps. So, if I am not paying for hockey, what am I paying for?... - I pay for those moments when my son becomes so tired he feels like quitting but doesn't. - I pay for the opportunity that my son can have and will have to make life-long friendships. - I pay for the chance that he may have amazing instructors that will teach him that hockey is not just about a game but about life. - I pay for my child to learn to be disciplined. - I pay for my son to learn to take care of his body. - I pay for my son to learn to work with others and to be a proud, supportive, kind and respectful team member. - I pay for my child to learn to deal with disappointment, when he doesn't get that score he hoped for, or fell during a breakaway he has practiced a thousand times, but still gets up and is determined to do his BEST next time... - I pay for my son to learn to make and accomplish goals. - I pay for my son to learn that it takes hours and hours and hours and hours of hard work and practice to create a champion, and that success does not happen overnight. - I pay so that my son can be in the rink instead of in front of a screen... I could go on but, to be short, I don't pay for hockey; I pay for the opportunities that hockey provides my child to develop attributes that will serve him well throughout his life and give him the opportunity to bless the lives of others. From what I have seen for many, many years, I think it is a great investment! S.Martin
