Georgian Bay Snowriders GBSR 25.11.2020

VALID: Sunday, Nov 22 - Monday, Nov 23, 2020 Still closely watching Southern Ontario's first potential snowstorm of the season starting Sunday afternoon. Start...ing to see some agreement amongst the models on the track of the system. But still going to be a very tricky forecast due to temperatures being right near the freezing mark and some areas seeing mixed precipitation or even all rain. With that being said, some areas could see as much as 20cm of snowfall accumulation by Monday morning! Working on the forecast right now and hope to get it out within the next few hours. Stay tuned! - Brennen P.

On Saturday, our guys were out working hard, but this is just one in many many days where these guys put aside their personal lives to spend their time on the trails fixing, brushing and mending! We can't thank you volunteers enough for your dedication, and selflessness to ensure that we all have amazing trails to ride when the snow flies! We worked on the macavalley trail clearing stumps, low hanging branches, and cut some trees down to widen a hilled corner to improve your... riding experience this season. This was the first of many projects that we are tackling to make our trails top shelf for the region. Thanks to our volunteers who came out to help with Saturdays project. Remember all clubs are run by volunteers, so get out and support your local clubs. Also an excellent way to earn your high-school volunteer hours for graduation. Stay tuned for more upcoming meetings and future projects! And as always stay safe, stay healthy. See you on the trails! - Justin, GBSR Here are some pictures of the progress made!

As you may have guessed, our monthly meeting in April is canceled due the resent restrictions put in place because of covid-19. The good news is before things got clamped down our trail maintenance crew got all stakes and signs removed from the fields so we are good for summer shut down. Hopefully things are back to normal my the fall so we can get working on our trails again.

Icebreaking Advisory CCGS Samuel Risley will be conducting operations near Midland, Ontario. It is recommended all ice users leave and avoid the operational area, as unsafe conditions can remain long after the icebreaker has left the area. For more info: http://ow.ly/X3k530qv2jX

Georgian Bay Snowriders GBSR 22.01.2020

Our small group of volunteers have been working tirelessly for weeks trying to get our trails open. These pictures are from this weekend. We still have water is...sues and it is slowing down progress. This particular spot was gone over a couple times before with no issue but third time was not the charm. Nothing was damaged but it took up precious time. We did get some of the lakes staked yesterday. Thank you to Jim and Peggy Fouracre for helping me and Robert Roth with that, and the rest will be completed this week. As with most of the snowmobile clubs a lot of the volunteers have full time jobs and/or live else where. We are very fortunate to have a few retired gentlemen who work every day on the trails. Its a heck of a lot work and we sure do appreciate all they do. Thanks Patrick Coulis , Al Fenton and of course our President Donny Martin for the countless hours you put in. They have been nonstop on the sleds packing and dragging trails. We definitely need more snow to go green but we are hoping to get some yellow showing on the map by the weekend. For specific trail availability details, always consult the OFSC Interactive Trail Guide (ITG) at www.ofsc.on.ca prior to accessing snowmobiles trails. Oh and a new outhouse was built in the fall and taken out to Swift Rd on B105 and 17 intersection to replace the one that was damaged. I finally got out to get a picture. Thanks for your patience everyone as we work to get things open and hopefully we will be blessed with another good snowfall soon. TR

Attention snowmobilers! Start doing your snow dance! some of you may have noticed our groomers out preparing trails. Our trails are good to go for the 2020 season! Thanks to everyone for there patience and support while we worked at getting the issues resolved. The snow conditions are still thin at best in most places so please respect the trails are still closed at this time. As soon as we get a significant snow fall and get the groomers back over everything expect to see some yellow on the map in our area!

Not that anyone should be running the ice right now but just a heads up!

Georgian Bay Snowriders GBSR 08.09.2019

Still need some more cold temps and snow out there.

Georgian Bay Snowriders GBSR 05.09.2019

Quick little video to remind people why the sled trails dont open the day after the first significant snow fall. With the way the weather is today and over Christmas we wouldnt have open trails this Christmas regardless of having a minor set back or not.

These 2 snowmobiles were stolen from Orillia a few nights ago. Please let us know if you or anyone you know may see them! Thanks, ODSC

Georgian Bay Snowriders GBSR 17.08.2019

Hey folks. Weve had several people ask us about the trail status. Sno Voyageurs trails have NOT opened up yet. They are still closed until the club volunteers... have had a chance to ensure the trail conditions are safe. This includes signage, repairs, brush clearing, removing hazards etc. At this time we are unable to predict when the trails will be open because our progress is limited by the amount of volunteers who come out to help. There are lots of people who tell us they want to help, but only a small number actually show up to do the work. Keep an eye on the OFSC interactive trail guide. We will update the OFSC when our trails are ready to ride. As for questions regarding people out on the trails today, not only are they trespassing, they are leaving themselves open to serious risk of injuries as well as damage/liability that may not be covered by anybodys insurance.
