Covid has had a tremendous impact on our mental well-being. "Almost two-thirds of 15 to 24 year-olds reported that COVID-19 has negatively impacted their mental health. 41% were likely to report symptoms consistent with moderate or severe anxiety." - Statistics Canada .... As part of our recent work with the United Way of the Lower Mainland, we spent the day with a group in the Chilliwack Community Forest, watching them build mountain bike and hiking trails! It was really interesting to see how fast the trails took shape, and how much fun the teens had riding the already established routes! . Watch this piece and if you are able, consider giving to the United Way this season. All the funds raised in community, go back into funding local programs. See more

This summer, Georgia Street Media had the immense privilege of working with the United Way of the Lower Mainland to showcase how the organization was mobilizing during the pandemic. . Community Builders were brought in as members of a neighbourhood that have intimate knowledge of what that community needs. They search out and connect givers with those who are in need of support. .... So thankful for projects like this, with organizations that are truly making a difference! . #LocalLove . https://fb.watch/1i-g4ewrW4/ See more

GSM #FlashBack! Three years ago, the GSM team travelled to Calgary to capture a street hockey stunt with Johnny Gaudreau and Cabbie Richards for Best Buy Canada! . For this stunt, we coordinated location permits, hockey equipment (Johnny Hockey has pretty specific stick standards), and security detail for our high profile cast. .... Lessons learned: - you CAN fit a hockey net inside a minivan, but you might need to get creative - street hockey is a bit tricky to play in a windstorm! Winds that day blew up to 90km/hr, knocking glass out of windows and items off of construction sites! - triple check your location permits (ie. you have a very narrow window from the time the city of Calgary drains the fountain at Olympic Plaza to when they turn it into a skating rink...) . Highlights: - working with a professional TV personality like Cabbie was an incredible treat. He made every single person (both members of the public and the crew) feel like they were part of the fun. . Take a peek at the final spot here! . . Shout out to our amazing crew: Producer/Director/Editor: Amanda Palmer Co-Producer Clayton Goodfellow Camera: Jordan Lee & Jeremy Pollock Assistant: @Erin Lucca . See more

Happy Birthday to GSM's Fearless Leader: Clayton Goodfellow! We know he really likes lists, so here's a list of cool things about Clayton: - Clayton is the kind of guy who will drop everything to help you, even if his own plate is overflowing. - Whether you're the Prime Minister of Canada or a camera op with a hockey net on his head, he cares about every client and contractor in a way that's hard to find.... - He loves chalk boards and CBC radio - If you ever need a hiking buddy, Clayton has his Wilderness First Aid, so you know you're in good hands. Thanks for making GSM such a positive place and encouraging and supporting us to do better every day. Happy Birthday Clayton! - Amanda & Jordan

Education - and how it's delivered - is changing rapidly. It's definitely not easy, but as this short and sweet piece we did for University of the Fraser Valley shows - there are definitely some silver linings to online learning https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8D-ytsLo9A

"As of 2020, more than 25 populations of Pacific salmon are scientifically identified as threatened or endangered." ----------- In the fall of 2019, Georgia Street Media began working with the David Suzuki Foundation on a documentary project to explore shrinking salmon populations in British Columbia and the effect salmon hatcheries were having on them.... . Many of us have visited hatcheries over the years, to learn about salmon life cycles and see the fish climb the ladders back to where they were hatched. But - did you know that there are different types of hatcheries? And that some might be doing more harm than good? ----------- For this project, we spoke with marine biologists, conservationists, a hatchery manager, a former DFO First Nations Community Advisor, student educators and commercial anglers. Of course, the more we learned, the more there was to learn. . We are excited and proud to share this project with you, and to start a conversation about the role salmon hatcheries play in our province. . Watch, share, and join the conversation! https://davidsuzuki.org//join-conversation-about-salmon-h/ ----------- #WildWorksBest

Happy Birthday Jordan!! . As many of you already know, Jordan Lee is a rock (like, not literally a rock...though we bet he has a good pun about rocks handy). . There is no problem he can’t solve. No challenge he isn’t up for.... . This past year he’s shot a documentary for the David Suzuki Foundation, travelled the world producing stories for an online business magazine (Pinnacle Digest), and edited countless hours for our client projects. . He’s a technical wizard, a calm presence during challenging times, and is always up for the next adventure. . Jordan, we are so proud to have you on this small and mighty GSM Team! Thank you for your dedication, your optimism and your head-shaking puns. . Wishing you an amazing year ahead!! - Clayton & Amanda . See more

With fresh snowfall on the north shore mountains, it’s officially winter in Vancouver!! . Yesterday, Amanda had the opportunity to tag along with Capilano University’s Outdoor Recreation class, as they headed into the Mount Seymour backcountry. . Students learned the basics of avalanche safety, how to read the snowpack, and how to efficiently travel by snowshoe, skis or splitboard.... . We’re looking forward to working with the CapU team in 2020 to highlight more of their amazing programs! See more

DID YOU KNOW: December 10 is Human Rights Day! This is a day to acknowledge the rights we have, and the work that's been done to establish them. It's also a day to highlight the work that still needs to be done.... GSM recently teamed up with BC's Office of the Human Rights Commissioner to start work on a video library of BC Champions of Change. This first video introduces us to Teresa Pocock, a woman with Downs Syndrome, who fought to live outside of an institution and to make her own choice about where she lives. Learn about Teresa's story here: https://youtu.be/CqyVl3o7_g8 #HumanRightsDay #StandUp4HumanRights
