Walking a cat isn’t quite the same as walking a dog... less productive but certainly a precious experience

June is new to the team, but saw the post and asked if she could be included. I told her everyone is welcome!

This is Emmett, Emmett and I go way back... he was a stray that I cared for when I was working at the Animal Shelter. I think it’s fair to say that Emmett has come a long way since then. A true stray, I don’t believe Emmett ever had any human interaction and so he was extremely fearful. He was never aggressive but would avoid human touch as if it were a saw blade coming for him with time and compassion he made improvements but was still often overlooked for the younger, and ...more outgoing options in the adoption room. I’ve always had a sweet spot for the scaredy-cats, and I know how rewarding it is when you have to earn their trust/build the relationship and finally make that breakthrough. Emmett deserved a happy ending, like they all do. He waited quite a while, but then an exceptional couple came and saw that timid cat and all of his potential. Fast forward, our paths have crossed again and now I am his pet sitter! He is not shy or reserved, he is not timid or skittish. He has human friends, dog friends, cat friends, he even has a bird friend! He is so happy, so cared for, and so loved. Just look at him-- Animal rescue is so rewarding. More and more people are starting to realize this, which is an incredible shift to see and be a part of. Remember this cute orange tabby the next time you’re looking to open your heart and home, consider rescue, and help show a cat like Emmett what a loving family feels like. Mike Hartwick &Stephanie!
