From professor to sex worker? (No disrespect to sex workers intended, but it is usually a dangerous job, emotionally or physically, and not what this professor ...studied and worked for.) Precarious contract faculty in higher ed continue to be abused and exploited, and the situation's worse since Covid arrived. This is a quote from a woman US adjunct that was just posted on another site I'm a member of: "I had 3 classes initially. One got cut on Friday, another one today. And what do I learn? FT faculty have overload courses, and they're being *asked* to give up those overload courses to adjuncts. Asked! Unbelievable. They make a full-time income and have benefits... and on top, they get overload courses and get paid for them! I'm thinking of cashing out my retirement and telling them to F off! And you know what I'm contemplating? Becoming a phone s*x operator. Apparently, their industry is going strong. Can you believe this?! I got graduate education to get men off over the phone!" "Before Covid-19, she regularly taught at multiple colleges in Florida, but her course load has since dropped from nine to one, she said. Her income all but vanished. She’s applied for food stamps and tapped friends and family for favors."

Our new documentary, IN SEARCH OF PROFESSOR PRECARIOUS, is now playing at two international film festivals, both online this year: The International Social Chan...ge Film Festival and Workers Unite Film Festival. In the past 10 days it's also been ordered for streaming for their members by 27 faculty associations across North America, including two in the U.S., plus a local Facebook group. It's also now available on Vimeo on Demand. Most of the faculty association orders are for Fair Employment Week, Oct.19-23 this year, a Canadian initiative to draw attention to the working conditions of precarious contract faculty. There's still time to order for that week. If you're part of a union or a student or faculty association that might be interested, get 'em onboard. Contact [email protected]. See more
