YOUTH SPEAK OUT on CLIMATE ACTION Youth Speak Out on Climate Action for Our City is a virtual community meeting hosted through Zoom by the City of Stratford’s E...nergy and Environment Committee and Climate Momentum (https://climatemomentum.ca/). Youth Speak Out may be accessed at 7 p.m. on Earth Day 2021, Thursday, April 22 online at bit.ly/stratford_climate or by phone at 1-778-907-2071 (webinar ID: 873 4426 9549). The meeting will also be live-streamed on the City of Stratford’s Facebook page. The meeting is free and all are welcome. This event is presented by students and members of the Eco Club at Stratford District Secondary School who will address issues of transportation, waste, urban sprawl and reforestation. The student panelists are Kashish Dhanoa, Camille Ditty, Maria Gheorghe, Sammie Orr, Christopher Rouse, Rachael Schieldrop and Joelle Wiebe, and the moderator is Ms. Christine Ritsma, History and Green Industries teacher and staff advisor to the Eco Club. Guest panelists include Quin Malott, Manager of Parks and Forestry for the City of Stratford, and Marianne Van Den Heuvel of the Stratford-Perth Tree Trust (https://treetrust.ca/partner/stratford-perth/). The Tree Trust is a non-profit charity committed to identifying and preserving mature trees. A question and answer session will follow the panel presentation. This event is part of a series of monthly webinars on climate action for Stratford following the declaration of a climate emergency in February 2020. On Wednesday, May 26, the speaker will be Eric Miller, an economist and educator focused on sustainability metrics, models and policy. He is a member of the Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change at York University and is a David Suzuki Fellow. On, Tuesday, June 8, the Stratford Field Naturalists and the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority will present a panel on invasive species, how to locate and to control them with guest speaker Jay Ebel, Forestry and Habitat Restoration Technician.
