Introducing our 2021 Gutsy Walk local honorary chair: John Smythe! John is a #crohnswarrior and will be representing Canada at the 2021 Olympic Games playing field hockey! Join John and all #ibdwarriors as we walk virtually on Sunday June 6 in support of Crohn's and Colitis Canada. Visit www.gutsywalk.ca to register. John’s story - John was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. Growing up, John played every sport under the sun but soon fell in love with soccer, field hockey, and... lacrosse. Upon graduating high school, he believed field hockey posed the most opportunities moving forward, and it was then he decided to pursue the sport professionally/competitively. Despite being diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at the age of 18, having three major surgeries, including a full colon removal, and falling out of the National program for 3 years, John took advantage of the opportunities presented to him and has now been competing on the world stage for 9 years. John has played professionally in both Hamburg, Germany and Paris, France and has represented Canada at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, 2018 World Cup and 2019 Pan American Games, where the team took home the silver medal. Most recently, John helped qualify the team for the 2021 Olympic Games, on home soil in an intense two game series against Ireland. See more

Our Chapter President Matthew recently spoke to CBC Vancouver about washroom accessibility and Crohn's and Colitis Canada's GoHere App. Even in the best of times, washroom access is an issue for many that live with IBD and other medical conditions. However, for those that must commute or are essential workers, COVID-19 has made washroom access even more difficult as businesses and government buildings have closed or have restricted washroom access. How would you like to see i...mproved washroom access in our communities? To learn more about the GoHere App visit: https://crohnsandcolitis.ca/Support-/GoHere-Washroom-Access If you own a business that has washroom facilities available for the public, and are willing to be listed on the app, sign up at: https://crohnsandcolitis.ca//GoHere-Washroom/Order-a-Decal The GoHere app is available for download on App Store and Google Play
