My first "post shutdown" baby from 2020 (I will always remember her for that reason) came back to see me for her 1 year photos yesterday, and holy moly was she amazing! Just the happiest little thing, it didn't take her long to warm up to me and she was just amazing (although active!) for her session. Mama chose donuts and she definitely put the 'smash' in the cake smash ideas, lol. Just loved it and loved her. ELY | 1 YEAR OLD | MAY 5th, 2021

My colour-loving heart is so happy looking at this image, so spring-y Clara was unfortunately one of the newborns I had to miss last year due to lockdowns, which made me so sad because I loved photographing her parents' engagement/maternity session, wedding, big sister Lily's newborn and 1-year photos + yearly family photos...but I feel lucky that I got to capture one of her milestones this year! At 38, I wish I had: - worn sunscreen and moisturizer every day; - jumped in the pool instead of wading in; - taken more nudes; - learned to stop caring what others thought of me sooner;... - travelled more; - tried harder to work on my ego; - taken more videos of the kids; - danced without feeling embarrassed; - realized University wasn’t the way for me (to be fair this was society’s fault lol); - started saving for retirement sooner and worked harder to get out of debt; - camped more; - learned more about my family history; - been ok with sucking at things; - tried more new experiences and things in general. At 38, I don’t regret: - getting married at 23; -leaving a secure, cushy government job that I hated; - starting my own business despite so many unknowns; - any time I’ve gone for a walk or to the gym; - any time I’ve eaten ruffled chips with dill pickle dip; - spending a single cent on travel, childcare or house cleaners; - ever having a camera in hand to document the moments with my family; - putting Dan and I above anything else in our lives (including money and our own kids) - working part time (ish) when the kids were little so that we always had 2 weekdays a week together; - putting them in daycare 3-4 days a week so that I could work on my own dreams without losing my mind; - my tattoos (just wish I had invested in the quality a bit more) - shamelessly obsessing over the things I love (DMB, McGregor 2016, LOST, Outlander currently); - not finishing books if they don’t hold my attention; - choosing time and happiness over money; - keeping my mouth shut to keep the peace and protect my mental health (every online interaction basically lol); - quietly living my life unapologetically.

Had my first 2020 newbie in for his 1-year photos, how crazy! I love it when they come back and I get to see how much they have grown...these kids and their mamas had quite the year together, it was harder than usual and they deserve all the credit in the world for making it through! My 1-year package always includes 3 set ups including a "plain" one that isn't necessarily birthday themed, usually on a plain backdrop with regular clothes. This is meant to just show off their newfound toddlerhood, while still looking so much like the little babies they were a year ago...these are the ones you'll want to print and keep and stare at in disbelief in a year, or two, or 10...trust me. Happy February! That last month felt...well...long, didn't it?!
