The Museum "Stepova Ukraina" was founded in 2006 and is a branch of the Museum of Local History of Odessa. The museum exposition shows the world of Ukrainian an...d Moldavian peasants, Greek and Jewish urban communities, villages of Old Believers and Gagauzians, Bulgarian and German colonists. The contribution of the Germans to the cultural life of the city and to the prosperity of Odessa cannot be overestimated. The first Germans came to Odessa as military engineers and specialists. The colonists of that time founded German settlements around Odessa in the course of this. Already in 2001, in order to create the Museum's exhibition, which opened in 2006, an expedition to the former German colonies of the Black Sea region was organized to purchase the relevant exhibits. Later, in addition to the specially financed large-scale collections, additional goods and donations from private individuals were added. To date, the German collection comprises some 700 objects.
