Why do I love the muscle clean?? Here are the three reasons I program these and believe everyone can benefit in some way from the movement. 1. Opening the body with speed.... This is key when completing any form of explosive movement whether it be for weightlifting or any other sport. Another way to look at this is acceleration and ensuring a high speed finish approaching the shoulders. 2. Continuation of movement with hands. We often see a declaration of the bar after passing the hip which is inevitable however, the issue is compounded should we forget to pull ourselves under. This teachings a constant force on the bar from hips to shoulders and helps eliminate the "floating bar" seen from those with a disconnect between their top pull and pulling under using the hands. 3. Getting your elbows around fast is hard. This is easier said than done. When we pull high up to the chest we must have high elbows in order to do so. This places the elbows to the opposite side of the bar from where we ultimately want to finish with the bar on our shoulders. Long story short. High elbows at the top of the pull, and rip them around as quickly as possible. Try adding these in during clean and jerk warmups to get the motor patterns working before hitting the first full set. #ghenttrainingsystems #olympicpowerandfitness #evolvestrengthsunridge #muscleclean #weightlifting #success #confidence #character

SMART work is not only hard but guess what....it's smart too! There are many pieces that make up the smart chart seen above and each one is just as important as any other. Without considering all the areas we are left with either a tired body and little results, or a dream that looks great on paper but not in practice. There is one other key part many over look in this diagram, and that is the fact that it's not only moving left to right. The Goal also needs to move verticall...y. Without small achievements within the goal, the path we are on can become difficult to follow. I like to call these smaller parts your "Focus". It's about where you are and what's next, not what's a mile down the road.
