TWENTY years ago development started at the Joseph A. Ghiz Memorial Park. Marlene Bryenton was the volunteer Project Coordinator for ten years. The picture storyboard at the Park is located on the corner of Grafton and Edward Streets across from Glendenning Hall. It outlines the history from 2000 when the sign, cedar gazebo, word flowerbed, picnic tables and planters were added to Grafton St. East Park. The name of the park was later changed to the Joseph A. Ghiz Memorial Park. I secured a photo of the park when it was a rail yard. There is also a beautiful aerial view of the park.
The annual Labour Day Barbeque is held at the Joseph A. Ghiz Memorial Park. They always have great entertainment and food. Because of COVID-19 the barbeque is cancelled in 2020. The picnic shelter provides seating, shelter and has electricity. Let's hope the barbeque can be held next year.

This is the original Joseph A. Ghiz Memorial Park sign donated by Lake of Shining Waters IODE. It has been repaired three times since the installation in 2000.
Lake of Shining Water IODE donated the Joseph A. Ghiz Memorial Park arch located on the corner of Kent and Edward Streets.
This is the picnic shelter located on Kent St. It was a gift to the City of Charlottetown from Lake of Shining Waters IODE to mark the City's 150th birthday in 2005. The pink flowers are donated to the park annually by the Dr. Marlene Bryenton Ghiz Park Fund. The picnic shelter is wheelchair accessible. It has two picnic tables, five double-seated benches and electricity. Many birthday parties are held here. Lake of Shining Waters IODE donated the trees leading in to the park on Kent Street.
