I got to put the electrical finishing on a basement renovation I’ve been working on in SW Calgary. The owner complained of poor lighting and wanted a brighter space. I gave him three designs to choose from (Cadillac, Middle of the road and economy). They chose to go with Cadillac. The electrical features of the renovation include: 1) 34 4 LED recessed dimmable lights with colour temperature selection. This means you no longer must choose between Soft White, Bright Wh...ite, Cool White and Daylight when you buy a bulb. The lighting technology now allows you to buy a driver that can change the colour temperature with the flick of button. This is all in an integral LED fixture that will last up to 40 years. 2) Device upgrade: Although the walls were never redone, I replaced all the receptacles with modern decora devices. The old telephone and data outlets weren’t in use (and a bit of an eyesore) so I covered them with blank plates to provide a cleaner look. They can be reused if a hardline is ever needed again as the wiring still exists. 3) Bathroom: The fan switch senses humidity in the air and turns on automatically when having a shower. It can also be turned on and off with a manual override switch. Also, I installed a heated towel rack. It warms your towels before you get out of the shower and dries them after use. 4) Two Smoke detectors in the bedrooms and one smoke/carbon monoxide detector in the main area all interconnected so that if one goes off, all three go off. If you don't have a carbon monoxide detector in your basement yet it's time. See more

This is a hotel my crew and I did in Bruderheim Alberta. It's a four story extended stay Studio 6 Hotel containing 63 rooms, a lounge and breakfast area. It is a modular building so 85% was done in a shop in Calgary with the remaining 15% of work happening on site.

I finally got to put the finishing touches on a basement renovation I started last year. The basement was entirely rewired and includes: Electric heat in the bathroom floor, dimmable gimbal style pot lights with colour temperature selection, closet lighting, dimmable recessed cabinet lighting, stair lighting, all new AFCI protected circuits, new wiring for the furnace, dryer, washer and electric baseboard heat to supplement the forced air heating in the house.

Adding More Circuits A client of mine is moving their kitchen in their house to an entirely different place than the current kitchen. They are also renovating their basement. These jobs required a bunch of new circuits. Unfortunately, there was no room left in the panel. With a little rearranging I was able to add a Sub Panel and create a bunch more room for the new circuitry. Sub panels are cost effective way to create more panel room without having to do a main panel ...swap. Also, any new circuits are run from modern breakers. We are fully licenced, insured and covered by WCB. Contact Gibney Electric to talk about your electrical needs. We provide Free Quotes and love adding more electrical potential to your home. Home Sweet Home This is a house my crew and I did for the Bearspaw First Nation on the Eden valley reserve. I had to totally redesign the electrical system in the house because the original did not meet the requirements of Stoney-Nakoda council. I re-designed the Metering, Panel, Branch Circuits, Lighting, Low Voltage Controls, Fire Alarm and Data systems within the house. It was also a challenge because it was built as two modules in a plant in Calgary and then put togeth...er on site in Eden valley. The Stoney-Nakoda council ordered three more of these homes after we completed this one. Whether its a whole home build, a renovation or just a simple electrical addition within a house, acreage or commercial building, Gibney Electric has the experience and know how to help you design the electrical system that suits your needs and meet all the requirements of the Canadian and Albertan electrical codes. Light the way. A client of mine owns a beautiful property west of Okotoks. They recently built a brand-new riding arena down the hill from their house. To get to the arena by foot they have a set of stairs. The problem was that they never used it in the winter or at nighttime because they were too dark. I installed LED rope lighting on the underside of the railing to light the stairs and minimize the light pollution. The LEDs can be changed to several different colors ...and dimmed down with a remote control. Contact Gibney Electric to talk about your electrical needs. Small Job Big Change Do you have a dungeon in your house? Poor lighting in a room can cause all kinds of problems, especially in a room where you are trying to work. This is a laundry room I did this week. The client said they struggled to see while sorting laundry. There was a small incandescent light tucked up in the floor joists and blocked by the duct work going by it. I installed two LED strip lights and built wood backing to lower them past the duct work. The... new lights provide THREE TIMES as much light (2400 Lumens compared to 800 from the incandescent bulb) and use 1/3rd THE ENERGY (24 Watts combined as compared to 60 watts from the incandescent bulb).
