We post this as a reminder to visitors (residents surely know this already) that if you "see a blow, go slow" and if in the marine mammals are less than 100' away, stop your engines until they pass.

As the Boating Season starts under Covid-19 safe distancing and rules there are new 2020 Marine Mammal Regulations. These new laws are to protect the endangered Southern Resident Killer Whales (SRKWS) and other cetaceans. Boaters presently must keep 200 meters from all orcas and that will increase to 400m on June 1st (there are some exemptions for those who will be carrying a purple AV flag that are permitted to be 200m). Boaters must shut down or place engines in neutral. Turn off echo sounders and fish finders. Slow down to 7 knots or less. Learn more at [bewhalewise.org](http://bewhalewise.org/) Be Safe for the Whales and Boaters!

Warning to all boaters. Sunken vessel in front of Coles marine (now defunct) in Gibson's harbour is a hazard. This is its mast sticking up.
