Wishing our fellow #3 forward prodigy Declan Coyle all the best for his 19th birthday today!
Well that was anticlimactic. 3 hours before the game we got a call from the SCRD cancelling the game given the new regulations from provincial health officer Bonnie Henry. She mandated that recreation facilities close at 10:00 tonight. Given our game was scheduled from 9:30 - 10:30 they had to pull the plug. If our game had started 30 minutes earlier we would have been playing tonight. We are now on standby for at least 2 weeks. https://www.cbc.ca//b-c-announces-new-covid-19-restriction
Game night! Cutters versus Kings @ 9:30 in Gibsons.
It’s been almost 8 months since we last stepped on the ice. On Saturday we restart into the 2020 / 2021 (COVID) season. Smaller rosters of 8 plus a goalie and drop-in format moving forward. The Cutters have secured the first game against the Kings which we last faced in March in what was the last game before facilities were shut. Lineup for Saturday @ 9:30 in Gibsons... Centers: Ethan, Todd Wings: Clark, Ashley, Levi Defense: Adrian, Mike, Jacob
Not sure if you have heard the rumour but summer hockey is back at select Canlan facilities including the Scotia Barn in Burnaby, and Canlan North Vancouver and Langley. Could this be a vision for hockey when it returns in the fall? The new 4-on-4 format allows Canlan to bring back the ASHL and YHL leagues. With new regulations around social distancing which start at the parking lot here are some of the changes they’ve made to make this happen: - 4-on-4 results in more pac...e and less incidental contact, more puck touches, and more opportunities to make plays. - No face-offs - Tweaking the rules to create a free-flowing game without faceoffs - No sin bins - Penalties will be served via penalty shots as we maintain physical distance off the ice at all times. We’re also taking a tougher stance against intentional contact and unnecessary roughness. - Two run-time periods - Red line offsides - Players will be required to observe physical distancing markers in the dressing room and on the bench and there will be limits on the number of players due to limits imposed as to how many people can be in the facility For more information check out the following links: https://www.icesports.com/itsplaytime/ https://ashl.ca/ashl-summer-2020/

It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 3 months since our last game against the Kings on March 12th. Here’s to hoping we’ll get ice in August to restart an almost forgotten year. While the Cutters have always benefited from having a deep roster, we’re always interested in hearing about new ice hockey talent moving to the Coast as other teams may be looking to fill vacant spots. Stay safe and see you on the ice soon!
Something has shifted in our play since the start of 2020. After months of losses it’s now official that we’ve turned the ship around with 4 wins and a tie in 6 games. Our play is stepping up and we’re in great shape going into the playoffs come April. Proud of what this team has done.
The Cutters have been on a bit of a streak of late with wins over the Bruins, Hitmen and Oilers to move to 6-16 on the season. While the team is far away from the top of the standings, they are playing with drive and grit which gives optimism for the upcoming playoffs. Next up the Hawks on Saturday the 21st followed by the Kings on the 28th.
Solid 6-2 win over the Hitmen tonight in Gibsons. The team is starting to roll out the wins with a bunch of new talent.
Got to love it when you see our local midget players rocking our Gibsons Marks Cutters socks!
Tough 6-1 loss tonight against the Kings but it wasn’t reflected in our play through 2 periods. It was 2-1 Kings after 2. MVP goes to John O‘Brian who stepped up as backup goalie and runner up to Declan for some solid play. Next game is this Saturday @ 7:00 against the Bruins in Sechelt.
It’s been only a week since our captain Adrian Müller left us for a short return back to Switzerland. He hasn’t wasted much time in playing 2nd Division in the Swiss League. Viel Glück Adrian Müller! We’re looking forward to helping us get out of the basement of the SC Mens League.
In what has become a bit of a tradition over the years, we presented a set of new Cutters jerseys @ the 101 to the new additions to the team on Tuesday night before we hit the ice to face the Hitmen. Welcome: #71- Jackson Cole... #3 - Declan Coyle #92 - Jeremy Dempster #12 - Liam Hage #93 - Todd Lansi #18 - Arran Marlow #1 - Chris Pellizzari #10 - Brad Plows #4 - Spencer Reed #14 - Duane Senchey We also said goodbye to our captain Adrian Müller for 2 months as he’s back in his native Switzerland to deal with immigration matters. Come have a look at our new lineup when we face the Bruins in Sechelt at 7:00 on Saturday, November 9th in Sechelt.
After coming from behind to make it a 2-1 game, the Kings pretty much took over the lead of the game for good first at 4-2 and then the final score of 6-2. There were some bright moments out there but it was hard to put anything past the best goalie in the league last night. MVP last night went to Sean Forrest. The Cutters play the Hawks this coming Tuesday the 22nd followed by the Oilers next Saturday the 26th.
First win of the season against the Hitmen 5-2 on Saturday in Sechelt which puts us at 1-3-0 on the season. We’re hoping for some more momentum against the Kings when we play this Saturday in Gibsons at 7:30.
Tough loss against the Bruins last night 7-5. It’s surely didn’t look like we were going to be defeated early. The Bruins scored in the first minute but the Cutters soon went on a goal run going up 4-1 into the second period. A late goal by the Bruins made it 4-2 going into the 3rd. Halfway through the 3rd the Bruins equalized to 4-4 and then went up 5-4. The Cutters tied 5-5 going into the last 5 minutes but a quick set of goals sealed it for the Bears.
The Sunshine Coast Adult Hockey League’s 2019 / 20 season kicked off last night in Gibsons with the Oilers taking on the Gibsons Marks Cutters. The Oilers came out to a 2-0 lead heading into the 2nd period until the Cutters answered with a goal to make it 2-1 going into the final period. From there the Oilers took control of the game to eventually win by a commanding 7-1.
